I think I know what he's referring to, one point I can see is Jalopnik seem to accept the "ring time" of 7:30 with traffic as actually meaningful, and saying it can't even beat the ZR-1, but of course, nothing is official and final about the production LFA's performance yet ...

Yeah, its closest competitor that comes to mind is the SLR
And before someone says it should be compared to other cars with V10 and is cheaper, take for example luxury watches, if you don't take into account the craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into making a watch, why pay the price of a patek phillipe or audemars piquet when a rolex will do the same thing and tell time
