Just looked at the updated lexus site,
I appreciate the new design, but I feel like the new grille diminishes the inner headlights which makes the gs so distinct...also the grille is way to thick or big for my taste, I think it looks ok in silver, but ugly on a darker colored car where the contrast is much greater. The front spoiler is ok...but it makes the car look less sporty with the horizontal lines cutting through but I like the new mirror turn signals. The steering wheel is ugly too... all in all...I think its an ok change but I prefer the older models. They look more sporty and distinct.
One of the "options" is "Wood- and leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift **** $330 [4]"
Does this imply that one could finally get a steering wheel W/O the wood, i.e. all leather like the ones released in Canada and the U.K.?
standard on GS460 and apparently option on GS350, however, I am sure all the pre-built one coming to US will have the wood trims on it since american love wood as luxury items on cars.
I am sure if you special order one, you can get the one with pure leather.
I also noticed that the GS460 gained around 200 lbs. How in the heck is that possible? Is the 4.6L that heavy?? I thought the 8-speed tranny actually weighed less? It has now lost it significant weight advantage.
GS430
Curb Weight (lb / kg) 3,748 / 1,700
GS460
Curb Weight (lb / kg) 3,945 / 1,789
My goodness, I hope the IS350 doesnt magically gain 200 lbs when it gets its mild facelift next year either. (the GS350 RWD from 2007 to 2008 gained 91 lbs )
The Lexus site (correctly) lists direct injection because the GS460 DOES have direct injection, contrary to the incorrect specs on the leaked PDF from Toyota's pressroom.
As for the weight gain, I think the GS460 has some equipment standard that the GS430 didn't, which may explain the weight gain. The weight gain is definitely not due to the engine alone.
I also think the stated 342 hp is underrated - in the past Lexus used the same V8 in 3 different platforms (LS, GS, SC) with very lil' variance in hp across the models, so it doesn't make any sense for them to start doing so now. Strictly from a mfg efficiency standpoint, if you're producing 45,000 4.6l V8s a year, why would you spend the time & effort to de-tune 15% of these engines ???

WTF?????SO the GS goes from near lightest in class to average??
The LS 430 weighs 3900 lbs!!!!
Hell the GS 350 might outperform it. That is nuts.
I am begining to question the entire team behind the 3GS.
