That is BS. Don't believe it. The fuel blow-by will degrade the oil as well as the additives sooner than 10,000 miles. I would never push a synthetic beyond 5000 miles unless prolonging the life of the engine is not a concern you have.

5000. 10000 is just too much.
Ask BMW drivers what long OCI had done to their engines (chain).

Lexus service schedule suggests oil change every 10,000 miles or at one year intervals, whichever is first. While synthetic provides protection longer than petroleum conventional oil, Lexus may have overstated the life expectancy of the synthetic oil. so that the vehicle's ownership costs, as determined by Edmunds, would be lower. Nonetheless, if you want to do everything within your control to extend the life of your engine, it would be prudent to change the synthetic oil and filter every 5,000 miles or every 6 months whichever comes first. I'm meticulous about service so I did my first oil change at 1,000 miles, and my next six months thereafter. I also installed a Vortex Magnetic-tipped Oil Pan Drain Plug ($24) at its last service to catch metal shavings and prevent their circulation in the engine. My next oil & filter change will be at the six month interval. I only put on 2,500 miles every six months and my driving is mostly suburban streets with occasional interstate driving. I will be interested in examining the magnetic oil pan drain plug in five months to see the extent of the metal shavings being trapped.

Am I spending money like a drunken sailor on shore leave by changing the oil & filter every 6 months? Perhaps, but at least I know that I am doing everything possible to ensure that the car's engine will be trouble-free for many, many years. Otherwise, an expensive repair. I save money by purchasing Mobil 1 at Costco or Sam's Club when it's on sale ($33 for 6 quarts) and then have the local Toyota dealership sell me a filter ($6) and perform the service ($24) - totaling $63. I have the service manager write up my receipt to show "Customer provided Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Oil." Such maintenance creates a "Toyota service record" which will will only enhance the vehicle's resale value and prevents Lexus from denying warranty coverage.

If you bought the car (not leased) with the intention of driving it for many many years, you can't go wrong with this oil change service interval.

This is true, but with an important asterisk:
"If the vehicle operation meets the standard criteria for "Special Operating Conditions" such as: driving off-road, on dirt roads, towing a trailer, making repeated short trips under 32˚F, or extensive idling; the engine oil must be replaced at 5,000 mile intervals, regardless of what type of oil is used."

You'll notice that many if not most owners meet one or more of these conditions, particular the short trips in winter and the extensive idling. For them, Lexus still recommends—no, requires—5,000 mile oil changes.

For those folks who staunchly say, "The maker of my car knows best, and I intend to follow their recommendations no matter what," it's worth noting exactly what those recommendations actually are.

I just did my first oil change a couple weeks ago at 795 miles. I am in the every 5,000 miles “severe duty” schedule camp. It is an easy job, so why not?
