Default New car smell and a few questions

Hi all- Just picked up my new 2023 RX 350h Premium (gray/birch) a few days ago and am SO excited! I'm nerding out... has anyone gotten any cool accessories for it? Key fob holders, center console organizer, or other stuff I never thought of?? I just ordered the OEM all weather mats from the dealer so who knows when they'll arrive. I'd also love a 2nd fob but I know that's not coming anytime soon. I'm going to try out the digital key soon and have read about the issues on here.

One question.... the "new car smell" seems to be fairly overpowering which I haven't had before in a new car. Is anyone else experiencing that with their new RX? We have windows down, running heat, trying to air it out. Any other tips? Making me feel a little lightheaded.

The dealer didn't setup the digital key for you at delivery? They should have.

Lexus has a video on this page now that shows some of the OEM accessories: https://www.lexus.com/models/RX
Someone on here is testing a center console organizer but I don't think any have been released to public sale yet.

Not sure what to say about the new car smell. Hopefully you have a garage to keep the windows open when you're not driving it.

We have bought these for our last eight vehicles. Love them protects the key fob, doesn't slip out of hand and easier to find. Plus door puddle lights.

Cool thanks - that link won't open for me (or their main store) - does it work for you?

Thanks, I looked at that link earlier but nothing is listed for the RX 350h, just RX. I'm thinking there could be size differences.

The new car smell will dissipate in a week or so.

I know you are anxious but take your time and read the threads in this forum and most of your questions will be answered.

The Lexus AllWeather Matt’s were a good purchase. They are probably the best Matt’s I have seen them make. They are a heavy rubber and very durable. They wish up like new!

Congrats and enjoy!

That new car smell is not supposed to be healthy for anyone, get as much fresh air through the vehicle as possible for the meantime.

I had read an article about these fumes causing cancer, but I haven't read anything about sales people of new cars experiencing anything unusual regarding this, and fresh air is good for you.

Enjoy that new RX!

Mine tried but couldn’t do it. He told me they were having trouble with it. I got it to work and then it quit working. Not worth the aggravation for me.

My dad bought a new car every year. Sometimes even more often. Lived to 86 with no cancer. (Anecdotal, I know, but...)

Don't forget there are people who spend years handling this stuff every day while it's brand new during manufacturing and it's not an identified issue.

I think I'll enjoy my new car smell and save my worries for the usual stuff...nuclear war, economic crises and now runaway Artificial Intelligence.

Hi ReggieRx, new car smell is basically the off gassing of the interior materials, I simply crack or fully open two windows to allow for air exchange in the cabin.

OP here. To follow up, the smell was intense and lasted about 2 weeks. We kept windows down when driving, kept windows up when parked on really hot days because we read it helps “bake out” the smell/off gassing process faster.

No other new car I’ve owned smelled that strongly. We bought it the same day the dealer received it so it was never driven before and hasn’t sat around the lot airing out.

Anyway, all that to say there’s no smell now and I looooove the car!
