Replying to a text. Telling the car to search for a specific POI, just as a couple of examples. Typically Siri has zero errors. You can do those things with a **** but it’s really tedious.

I have driven 2022s and they suck to high heaven. Not a single one is as accurate as I want it to be, if it's not like speaking to an actual person it's just frustrating.

I would always rather just pick up the phone and type in what I want vs suffering through using VC. Saying to one of the new systems to drive to an address is a massive pain since they ALWAYS screw up one of the numbers or street name. I don't drive to places that I can just say the name of the Business to the VC system since 90% of the time they are in a industrial lot or not a name that google can find easily. If I'm going somewhere that is a chain or normal I don't need GPS since I've lived here for my whole life.

Trips are different and I use a human for that, they also perform spotting duty and read ahead.

Ah, I just pick up the phone and use it directly for txt reply if not just call them directly if that message is in reference to something important.

I have never had reason to do a POI search, I usually have all stops picked out before I go anywhere and if it's a random stop it's just whatever sign looks like it's good.

I would never try and use the MMI system for anything like this! Totally useless, the screen only ever comes up when I'm adjusting drive modes or commanding the car to check oil or things like that.

Until the car system is as fast and accurate as my phone I won't use it. They are getting closer but they aren't there quite yet

Voice controls get better as you use them, just out of the box they never work as well as they will after a month or so. Picking up the phone and texting is a no go for me when I’m driving. I’m trying to stay alive.

And I don’t use the cars native VC, I use Siri.

Maybe that's why I hate it, I only ever have a car overnight so that's probably why

Neither did I. And somehow I still knew that Kelly Clarkson had nothing to do with a car video with a title "Top Gear..."

Back to the topic, it is cool too see that carplay is being integrated into hud too, so in newer cars, you still get map directions in HUD of you are using carplay.

This was not possible before.

Yeah definitely. This is why I don't use Gmap because it doesn't pop up on HUD.

2025 tutorial on all things carplay.

one thing i’ve wondered recently is why so few apps support carplay. of the 100 or so apps on my iphone, only 11 support carplay.

That....doesn't make any sense. If you have your phone in the shower, you will have access to ALL YOUR APPS. Why would you want THAT, when you can have a CarPlay enabled device that allows you to access a LIMITED NUMBER of apps?

You really didn't think this thru, did you?
