Default Need Help - Does anyone have DI-360, DI-382 and DI-394 for 1999 LS400?

Hello,

I started a previous post titled "1999 LS 400 - Check VSC and ABS lights on but no codes" without including the all important "Need Help" words in the title. I received lots of advice (thanks aptoslexus and python), but I still haven't gotten to the root cause of my problem. aptoslexus has been most helpful in providing the necessary DI's for investigating the cause(s) of the codes and indicating lights, but I am afraid aptoslexus is being faced with problems of his own (I haven't heard from aptoslexus in quite a while).

Without summarizing that whole post, I believe I am down to these three instructions: DI-360, DI-382 and DI-394. I do not have a shop manual for this vehicle. If anyone has these pages, will you please post them?

Sorry for the 2nd post, but with the diagnosis to date, the subject/title of the previous post is mis-leading (to some extent). Now, I am down to the problem being related to the ABS as the only code that comes up is C1223 Code 43. I searched for Code 43 and only came up with instances of 1997 and older. The 1998-2000's apparently have a different skid control system, than the older models.

How about DI-615 and the pages that follow... Specifically any info on the 1997 immo system and or pin outs. Unfortunately I have the manual without the DI section.

Performed procedure from DI-360/361:
11.48V across Ts and E1 of DLC1 => points to ABS & TRAC & VSC ECU

DI-394 =>:
Points back to the ABS & TRAC & VSC ECU

As a last check before actually replacing the ECU, I should probably check DI-305 for the C1223/43 code as per DI-382 and DI-358 as a result of Step 6 on DI-394/396.

aptoslexus, or anyone else, will you please post DI-305 and DI-358? By the way, where did you get the manual you are referencing? I should probably just get one if I plan to keep the LS400 much longer. The car is in such good shape (~190,000 miles) - it should easily last another 90k miles. The info you have provided is very handy/informative. Thanks!

I will start disassembly to access the ECU to get the correct module number off of it so I can start looking for a replacement.

Yesterday, my daughter was driving the car (new (learning) driver, wet roads in Minnesota) and one of the wheels broke loose as she was accelerating (not very heavily accelerating, I might add). I don't want her driving this car once it snows without the VSC working. I'll probably drive her to school over the winter, anyway, but I still want to fix the VSC (I know, I previously said I wasn't a big fan of VSC - I am now eating crow). I will probably try a used ECU, if I can find one. Rebuilt ECU's are just under $600. Yeeesh!

The manual is available for download at https://techinfo.toyota.com. Pretty time consuming to download and organize, but worth it.

No snow in MN, yet.

I finally went out and followed DI-358. Voltage between terminals Tc and E1 on DLC1 was OK: 11.76Vdc => Check and replace ABS & TRAC & VSC ECU

I also followed DI-305 and ended up getting a different code, I think. Based upon the routine, it says to watch for ABS light flashing, after removing the shorting pin, shorting terminals Tc and E1 together on DLC1, and turning the key on. I did this and came up with 33 (i.e. 3 flashes, couple seconds off, 3 flashes, a few seconds, repeat). Anybody know what the 33 code is indicating? No codes showed up on the display.

I think I am going to have to replace the ABS & TRAC & VSC ECU. I looked on-line and there are some used ones available for not much money. However, one of the people selling them states that the Lexus shop must "Reflash" the newly installed used ECU before it will work. Can anyone confirm this is true, or not?

If it is true the installation of a used ECU requires flashing, I doubt the Lexus shop will touch it. If not, then I think I will try the used ECU to see if it takes care of the issue. At least that way, if it works, even if it doesn't last long, the problem will be diagnosed and I won't feel as bad forking out $600 for a refurb'd ECU.

Thanks in advance!!!

Code 33 is right rear wheel speed sensor malfunction. Fixing it won't clear the light.

OK, it turns out my right wheel speed sensor is bad. We checked it in August and it was good - ugh! A new wheel speed sensor is on order.
