Default Scan Tool

How many of us own their own scan tool. I have always hated Techstream. Its ridiculously hard to set up with Chinese knock-off S/W, Operating system requirements etc. Its the best yes. I personally use the iCarSoft i990 I believe. It does everything I need for diagnostics. No programming capabilty though.

Recently, I heard there was an Autel Scanner model that could do TPMS for the 02-05 without having to take it to the dealer. That's fantastic. But, which mdl? I don't know.

Jump forward. I like to watch "The Car Care Nut" on utube. I also like "Pine Hollow Diagnostics" to show me how a real auto mechanic works.

The car care nut did a scan tool review on January 8 2022 called the XTool D7 and D8 scan tools. The D8 is being described as a direct replacement to Techstream. With abilities that included TPMS, and much more. Expensive? Yea. A little. $700 approximately.

So, I was curious what people are using besides Techstream and Why?

Paul

I don’t know at the present time, but int past (2016) install TechStream is an easy task. Twenty five bucks for the software, thirdty bucks for the old XP laptop, installation of the software was straight forward and took less than 15 minutes. Even with Window 10, with the assistance of my vendor thru the TeamViewer, the registry modification and files swap also took less than 10 minutes. The benefits of owning TechStream is endless.

I use Techstream for the 2006 SC 430 and I use Techstream and the Carista App for the 2010 LS 460L. I also sent my son a laptop with Techstream on it for his 2005 SC 430.

I got it guys. But I have done all that. Purchased cable, S/W and old laptop just for TS. But I could never get the license code to work. And believe me, I tried. The TS S/W everyone is using is as we all know is a Chinese knock off. Not even legal by Toyotas standards. There are now aftermarket devices that can do everything like TS. I like my iCarsoft scanner. But it doesn't program TPMS, keys, accessory settings etc. I am just curious after hearing about the Autel Scanner being able to do TPMS.

Autel TS408Pro - to reprogram/clone Autel TPMS sensors to oem ID’s
Autel ML329 - general purpose code reader; simple and fast, my go-to reader
Foxwell NT520PRO Toyota - fancy pants reader, but slow to boot up, and the serial cable has broken. .
Innova 3040 - good, fast code reader; loaned to my brother years ago; will probably never see it again.
Actron CP9125 - my first code reader. About 15 yrs old; it rides in my Tacoma.

It appears so. It can read any sensor but can only program their own. There may be exceptions I am not aware if.

When I did my research, I think the autel reads the radio signal being sent out of your current TPMS sensor and then programs it into the new replacement autel sensor. That way you never have to program the car, you just have to program (Clone) the new sensor you are installing

But you have to be careful because Discount Tire uses this same system and sometimes they will tell unknowingly tell you they can replace your tmps sensors with aftermarkets. This has been a problem for a few of our members

This is correct. One problem, as with mine, the TPMS sensor batteries had died and were not transmitting a signal. I needed a new code reader to read the sensor codes from the ECU, or remove each tire to read the code on each sensor. Luckily, when I got new tires, the shop used their code reader to give me the codes, then I cloned each Autel sensor manually.
