How to bleed the cooling system?
The 3UZ (and 2UZ) Toyota V8 does not appear to be prone to trapping air in the heads during a coolant drain and fill. However, I still use my "magic" funnel (Amazon link below) I bought a decade ago for changing coolant in all my vehicles. My MR2 and wife's ES350 are prone to trapping air, and this funnel makes the whole process easier. Check for YouTube videos as sometimes, like with the ES, their are some excellent how-to videos, with tricks of the trade.
The shop manual simply says to fill the system and button it up. Then, run the engine with the heater on full, at 2500 rpm until reaching full operating temperature. Let it cool down, and top off the system (as Bgw recommended).
With a bleeding funnel, you can run the engine until the t-stat opens, close the funnel valve, and button up, without the cool-down and topping off. Remember to top off the reservoir to the "high" fill-line as well.
