Default Wired adapter for iPhone stopped working

Hi folks, I need some help from you amazing people.

I have a 2006 SC430 that came installed with a wired iphone connector that was done by the Lexus dealer around 2011. The wired connector was for the old 30-pin iphone's and I have just been using an adapter to lightning port with my current adapter. To activate it I would click on CD and it worked great.

Well all of a sudden today I can't seem to get it to work. Whenever I press the CD button on the radio, nothing happens and the radio does not switch to CD mode. When I plug my iphone in to the wire it starts to charge the phone, but I still can't get the radio to switch to CD. AM/FM works fine.

Any ideas about what could be wrong? Could it be the unit that was installed to add iPhone integration that broke, or do you think it's the factory radio that stopped working? I have no idea the type of unit that the Lexus dealer installed. Would really appreciate some help

Thanks in advance

My suggestion: just remove the wired adapter to see if the radio works. It’s simple to do. After you removed the adapter, there is many options that you can do to connect the IPhone, one of which is using the Monster Cassette Adapter. Or you use the FM module like many others have done.
If the OEM radio no longer works, you can replace with the newer modern models.

Perhaps the CD button has dirty contacts. If so, try tapping on the button rapidly for 10 or so times to see if that helps. Sometimes you can clean a switch by turning it on and off quickly several times.

thank you so much!

This is actually on my parent's car, Im trying to help them out because they can't listen to their music any more. Hoping not to have to take everything apart...

If I do have to get a new radio, I did a quick search on the forum. It seams I could get the beatsonic and just any standard double-din radio that can support wireless car play and still maintain the ML sound system in the car? They like the system and it's great for them...
I'm thinking if I do that and it's possible, to perhaps add a backup camera as well? Do you guys know of any reasonably priced suggestions?

Oh, and would it be possible to also add parking sensors? They love it when they hear it on my car, I'm thinking I could upgrade them with all of that. If that could all cost around $1,000? Not sure...

Tried pressing button multiple times, no go

Thought about it and really don't want to spend $1k for a new radio parents just want to be able to listen to music from their iphones.
Thing is, the car has factory bluetooth for voice calls. If it's the unit the ipod integration unit that broke and I replace it with a new one bluetooth one, it seems I won't be able to retain the factory bluetooth for phone calls, is that right? I don't want to have to install a microphone for them.

Any suggestions?

It’s simple solution. Buy a Monster Cassette Adapter $14.00, a Nazhtech magnetic phone holder $14.00.
Insert the cassette, plug in the phone and your parents get everything from phone music, hand free phone conversation to Google maps, YouTube videos, e.t.c...

So Lexus didn't sell a factory Iphone adapter option. It sounds like someone added a GROM, or GTA kit to the car. The GROM I added lets me plug in my iphone and charge it or play music through it. I also just choose the CD option (Really the AUX Option through the CD Button)

Your best bet is to disconnect your battery for 5 minutes and that will reset the GROM box (if that is what you have) Hopefully after a reset it will start working again. If that doesn't work, you will have to open up your center section to see what kind of adapter you have. It is pretty easy to do, you can just follow this video

Once you find the box, you can find who makes it and contact them for support (or replacement)

Oh, you may just want to test the adapter from the old Iphone port to the new port. It may have gone bad also

Thanks guys
i don’t mind installing a GTA Car kit module or the USA Spec one.

the problem is that I would then have to use their microphone and wire the microphone too. I actually asked the manufacturer if GTA kit and they said I would need to wire their mic.

The 2006 comes with Bluetooth for phone so I was hoping to retain the factory mic. The aftermarket mics are not very slick looking.

to those that did it, where did you install the mic so that it’s not too obvious. Is there a way to use the factory mic?

i installed the after market mic where the factory mic is installed except using the open port on the opposite side of the light fixture. Yellow circle

Factory mic is circled in red at the top of this pic...
Simple installation.
the entire install is in another thread.

Oh wow, that looks amazing! Did you use a GTA Kit or a USA Spec? I'll look up the install thread, hopefully it's not too bad, I don't even know how to take the radio apart, lol. Will look it up on youtube. I saw GTA Kit had a nice youtube video on how to take apart the stereo, but they didn't put the mic in this location. The mic works well there?

Thank you so much!

If you do install a GTA or a USA Spec, can I have whatever broken system you take out? I think it is a GROM system and I would love to mess with it. We can work something out via PM as your project moves along.

In case you need it, here is the post where BGW posts pictures of the Lexus instructions on how to take out the console light. Sorry GMan, It doesn't show how he routed the wires.
