Yes, it looks like you'd have to cut open the visor to get to the internal mechanisms.

I received the brand new driver's side sun visor today and did a quick search on YouTube to see if there was removal or replacement video. The closest I came to that was "How to fix all car sunvisor quick" on an SC430:
Interesting video, but I was clearly on another path to fix the problem. When my wife arrived home this early evening I removed the old sun visor and replaced it with the new one. I pried off the plastic cover, removed two screws and detached wire clip for the sun visor light and then vice versa for installation. It literally took about five minutes or less, easier than replacing the trunk struts.

I have the dreaded flaccid sun visor as well and frankly it is unforgivable that this device is so prone to failure. I will use the binder clips idea, thanks for posting.

The driver's side sun visor due to it's extensive use probably fails far more than the passenger side. One thing you may want to consider since parts are in short supply and it's only going get leaner, you may want to purchase a new one while you can if you plan to keep your SC for the next few years. I bought mine on EBay for about $190.
