plastic grate w/rubber flapper in rear bumber cover
2002 SC430. What is the rubber flapper thing that connects the area between the rear bumper cover and the trunk section? I have absolutely no idea what you would call it. The dealer took a look at it and said it was around $50 bucks if that does any good. I'm curious is all. It looks as if it'd open up to relieve a lot of water if the trunk were to fill up.

Moving to the right Forum,
That is the exit vent for the air flow. Fresh air is sucked in from the front and even when the A/C is off there is an air flow and the stale air is exited from these vents. The flaps keep bugs from entering.

Called the roof side ventilator....
The diagram is a bit confusing, it’s actually part of the quarter panel under the bumper cover. My understanding is its purpose is to reduce/equalize air pressure, turbulence at speed and wind noise.

I'm so thankful for the reply! I actually made a temporary flap out of thin cardboard until the new part comes in. It seemed to make a very loud noise on the freeway and I had no idea what it could be. Now I do. Thank you
