Default Does the LC = the Supra = the Z4?

This is the new Lexus LC

This is the new Supra

Notice any similarities?

What's really interesting is the LC/Supra share the same platform as the BMW Z4

Could be wrong but the LC is completely different than the supra/Z4. The Supra and Z4 were a joint venture between Toyota and BMW. You will find a BMW engine and suspension in the Supra.

When I saw the new supra I did not like it one bit. I didn't do any research but I heard from someone talking that BMW was in part of the design. It definitely looks related to a Z4. I personally would never buy this car. If I got it for free, I'd sell it and buy an sc430.

Is this a joke? The LC and Supra couldn't be any more different & are not even remotely related to one another.

For starters, the LC is like a boat and the Supra is like a children's toy car just looking at the size difference alone. The Supra has a 97.2 inch wheelbase. The LC is on the GA-L platform (same as the new LS500) and has a 113" wheelbase, which is an inch longer wheelbase than on the 4th generation GS, which is a 4-door sedan.

This has to be a joke.

Thanks for answering the question. Not being a huge follower of car news, I just thought that the release of three cars, with similar setups, in the same year had to be more than a coincidence.

I see now I was wrong.

I think it is interesting the LC has a Lexus V8 and the Supra only has a 6.

The Supra has always had an Inline 6 that can hold 1000rwhp on a stock block well at least the 2jz not sure about the new MKV power plant yet. V8 doesn't mean much these days with lots of powerful turbo 6 options, based on your response you don't seem to know much about the history of the Supra.

Nope. I think they are probably great cars. I know their owner's love them, but I have never had that honor myself.

I, too, know nothing about the previous gen Supra, other than they're every tuner's dream & they've reached that legend/icon status. Never really cared to find out why, not my area of automotive interest, but I understand what market/niche it's in.

According to that video, Toyota took the BMW inline 6 and redesigned it for reliability. Do you think both the Z4 and the Supra use the new engine, or did BMW stick to their original design?

FYI, the last gen Supra (94+) and the SC300/400 were built on the same chassis, the SCs were first, 92. The SC300 and non turbo Supra engines were the same. Someone here said the internals of the turbo motor were different, but I never heard that before.
In 93 we test drove a 94 non turbo Supra, but my wife literally could not drive it, despite driving a stick all the time. We ended up with an SC300 5-Spd with a much different clutch action.
After 23 years I sold the SC to a Japanese tuner shop who were happy to get it - they had another putting out 1100hp with a big single turbo.
Ah, the good ole days!

I'd get one as a 2nd car if I had lotsa disposable income - 2 seaters are very limiting - same with Miata or Z4 or RC or (whatever) Benz.

biggest difference in the GE vs GTE (non vs. turbo) motors was oil squirters to keep the pistons cool and different intake manifold.

my first ever Lexus was a ‘95 sc300 5spd in Platinum Silver Metsllic w/ black interior... loved that car.

I used to own a 87 Supra, the third generation, and the first dropped and separated from the Celica name. At the time, it was considering as a flagship engine of Supra arsenal, went from 160hp of previous model (1986) to 230 hp, with inline 6 and 24 valves dual overhead cams. It was a punch.

My current SC is kind of a reminder of the past. Love it.

It is crazy, when I was in HS I had my sc300 and 1jz swapped it to get to a whopping 280whp.

At the time two of my friends moms bought the sc430 and we were all amazed at a factory car with 300hp. Every chance we got we took the sc430s out to “feel the power”. Now I own one of those exact SC’s and it’s slow in modern terms.

Must’ve felt the same to the old muscle car guys.
