I have not received my notice. I do have another recall on my IS350. Another Fuel system issue.

The recall is apparently done by zones and apparently only to Takata designed systems. Even with those limitations when I called the dealer yesterday they told me to wait two days as there were no parts available. They said they’d call back to set an appointment when they received the parts from the Toyota distribution warehouse.

The notice does give instructions on how-to check your VIN for recall status.

My 2002 SC430 should not be recalled again since I had the inflator replaced well after the 2014 cutoff.

Thanks BGW for the information. I’m glad that my car will not be recalled.

I just received my notice a couple of days ago also. I plan on calling them soon. From what they said on the news, they'll be using a different technology on the new igniters than on the previous ones.

Reading through the Air Bag Failure and Recall that sent Takata to bankruptcy, all the airbag makers had to join forces and produce airbags to replace suspected airbags, globally. Honda took the big chunk of the defective airbags followed by Toyota. It appears that Toyota is now on the move to make sure that no other airbag incidents lead to harm, on replacements done. I cannot blame them.

I received (4) postcards during the past 6 months on airbag recall for my 04. They keep asking me to call the dealer to complete recall........and I still didn't do it yet.

You should bring your car in. It’s not wise in delaying since it’s serious matter. Your passenger could get kill even in the event of minor collision. If the airbag desployed, the scrap metal could pass thru and strike the passenger. Besides, it’s free of charge, plush the car wash and a loaner.

Agree with all but the car wash. If you value your paint finish, you will never have the dealer wash your car. I leave instructions and have a sign placed on the rear view mirror stating "Do Not Wash".

Well this is interesting...Driver Hurt By Air Bag Shrapnel As Investigation Drags On
Nearly four years ago, the U.S. government's highway safety agency began investigating air bag inflators made by ARC Automotive of Tennessee when two people were hit by flying shrapnel after crashes.

Got mine (2002) replaced last week & free coffee and tank of gas. From what I know, previous owners never brought it in for the 1st airbag recall.

Can air bag be disengaged/disconnected/deactivated effortlessly? better than being hit by the flying shrapnel.....

My 2003 SC (62K miles) has an appointment tomorrow for the passenger airbag replacement. Lexus of Portland (OR) will do the work and they suggest leaving the car with them for the day. While it's there, I'll have a few other (preventative maintenance) things done. I'll be interested to see what model Lexus "loaner" they'll provide me...

yep, you could disconnect the plug, but I don’t think I would do that. I only know the connector is in the dash, probably right underneath the passenger side airbag.
why don’t you just have it repaired?

The SC is still in the winter hibernation and due for NYS inspection on March 2019. I will take her out late March when the weather is warmer and do the recall.
