Front wheel hub bearing diy
I've searched and searched for a diy on changing front wheel hub bearings can anyone help? |
Do you have access to a press and have you checked YouTube for a similar video? i know this is a big job. BTW, this is rare...how many miles on your SC430? |

That is a good looking car!
My favorite DIY guy on Youtube did a video on a wheel bearing/hub replacement. It isn't for a Lexus, but you get the basic idea. This guys did a hub replacement on a ls430, but I never watched the video |
You don't have a complete hub to replace in the sc430 like shown in the video. It has to be pressed out of the knuckle. Putting it back in you can press it in or cheat. Cheat by putting it on dry ice shrinking it enough that it will drop right into the knuckle. There's a couple of specialty tools that make R&R of the bearing easy, but cost so much most shops don't even have them. You can make a makeshift removal and installation tool with threaded rod sockets, and washers and nuts. You can take the whole knuckle out and either have it pressed out, or use your own press. Pretty much your options. After removing the knuckle you might be able to drive the old bearing with a drift and punch. Not easy or fun by any means too do. Oh and plus the hub is pressed in too. You'll have to pull that off with a slide hammer or press it out before even having access to the bearing. Personally, it's worth the money to have it done, at least to me anymore. |
Thanks coleroad. My favorite guy did a diy on a knuckle also.
1A-auto has one done on a camry which is a little more relevant |
The gs is like what the sc430 is like. Then you can use a press like Chris fix uses instead of the hydraulic press.

This is a job that I'll be having done, in the next week or so. I purchased the hubs & bearings from Rock Auto a couple of weeks ago & just figured I would replace everything
|
Hey Lexilla, any follow up? What did you end up doing?
|
I think I'll bring it to a shop and let them do it |
