I understand what you are saying and I am not say that his 2006 SC 430 which we all believe is a cream puff and it very well might bring $27K. But there is a process that management goes through when making a decision. In order to achieve the goal that one seeks the decision must be decisive, it must be realistic and it must be attainable. The decision to ask $27,000 for a 2006 SC 430 is decisive but I question weather it is realistic or attainable. Again that is not to say that a 2006 SC 430 with 27K on the clock is not worth it but I am guessing the decision to ask that amount is neither realistic or attainable. Time will tell.

I just did a quick nationwide search via CarGurus for 2006+ SC430s with fewer than 30K miles. As of this moment, there are only 3 cars that meet this criteria. One is a 2006 w/24K miles - asking $29,995 in Phoenix. Another is a 2007 w/19K miles asking $27,800 in Illinois. The last one is a 2008 w/29K miles asking $29,995 in California. So if I was dead set on buying a low-mileage 2006+ model today, Slingshot's $27K would look pretty good to me.
Personally, I think all of the 2006-2009 model years for the SC430 were pretty much identical, and since they are all 9-12 years old, I don't think it matters all that much between these years. I know the 2010s had some much-needed upgrades, but there weren't many made and they do tend to fetch a bit higher price.
I hope Slingshot tests the water by advertising his car via AutoTrader or some other nationwide site, and keeps us posted on what interest he gets at that price point. I think the response might surprise some of us on this forum! Good luck!

I hear what you are saying and more power to slingshot if he can get $27K out of his 06 SC 430 but I still believe that it is a long shot if he does. On the other hand had he said he would take $18 to maybe $21K it would have been sold already. It's like the former Governor of IL when he thought he had something worth gold but instead of getting a pile of gold he got the shaft. If and this is a big if something happened like he had an accident while going to get a qt of milk up the street for the DW do you think the insurance company is going to write him a check for $27K. I don't care what Michael Douglas says, Greed is never a good thing.

When it comes to used cars, I think the overall
condition will play a major role to the final price.
With the pearl white, I do think this is a very popular
color for the SC 430. It is also a color that generally
will never match again should any of the panels ever
be repainted because of accidents or any bodywork.
The three stage white is extremely hard to match.
I currently own an 02 white gold crystal and I probably paid 2K more
for my SC and the reason why I paid more is because
my SC has all original panels.
just something to consider if I was a new Pearl white
car buyer

Car valuations are all about supply and demand. There is a fixed supply of the 2006-2010 SC430s, and the number of mint condition, ultra-low mileage examples shrinks each year. The demand for these cars remains fairly strong, as many people understand and appreciate just how beautifully designed and amazingly reliable they are. So for those reasons, I am hopeful that the prices for these cars remains high (and maybe even rises over time as the availability of the perfect low mileage models continues to dwindle). Compare Slingshot's beautiful 2006 SC to a new car that can be purchased for $27k. A mid-range Honda Accord... A low-end Mustang or Camaro... Yes, you get some nice new electronic and safety features in a new car, but you lose the reliability, style, and uniqueness you get with the SC430.
I don't disagree with anything Dennis or others have said, but I'm a big fan of these SCs and want owners to hold out for top dollar whenever possible so we don't see much future depreciation on our prized SCs!

Guys
Over the year, I have owned 4 SC 430s ranging from 02-06 with miles
from 27K -77K. I get the love we have for the SC but I think it is a mistake to
look at these cars as museum piece and not to drive them. Any car that just sits
without being driven is really bad for the engine, A/C, gaskets and the electronic ABS
pump the SC has.
I also personally don’t drive my SC much these days but that is
only because I have 4 cars. You have to take the horse
out of the stable.
Having said that, I do agree as the years go by. It will be
harder to get an SC with 35K or less in any year.
I have 46K on my 02 and I don’t drive my SC much these
days which was why my battery went dead. Again, it is not
a good thing

Jonas,
I agree with you. Cars need to be driven to keep parts lubricated and exercised.
I enjoy looking at my cars sitting in the garage as much as I love driving them. Currently, I drive my 05 PB once a week and drive my 03 more often for longer trips. This gives me a good balance between keeping one car at low mileage and one for me to enjoy without hesitation.

Given a choice of an SC with 21K or 42K , I think
the 42K SC might be more lubicated in my opinion.
My father had a 560 SL that had only 100K on it
The car was 32 years old and when he passed away
the suspension , gaskets and soft top were all shot
I had to put about 10K into the car and decided to sell
the car

Just some Numbers
There currently are 60 2006 SC 430's listed on Cargurus and that is the only web site I ran the numbers on. I will list the numbers below but keep in mind I have no ideal what the service history of these SC 430's looks like. You would need to pull the Vin's and input them into Lexus Drivers web page to get an ideal of how well they have or have not been treated.
19 had over a 100k on the clock. Average Cost: $14,076 Average Miles: 118,785 Range: 100,000 - 204,648 miles
16 had 80-100K on the clock. Average Cost: $17,166 Average Miles: 88,073 Range: 81,284 - 94,105 miles
12 had 60-80K on the clock: Average Cost $19,148 Average Miles: 71,669 Range: 62,500 - 78,783 miles
9 had 40-60K on the clock: Average Costs: $23,541 Average Miles: 48,418 Range: 41,883 - 55,987 miles
4 had 20-40K on the clock: Average Costs: $28,023 Average Miles: 32,142 Range: 23,996 - 38,800 miles
The low was $8,577 which had the 264K on the clock and the high was $29,995 for the one with 23,996 on the clock.
So sling may not be that far out of line at $27K with 27K on the clock from a national average stand point.
Some additional data on the bottom 4 cars in the 20-40k on the clock bracket. The SC with the 23,996 miles on the clock and asking $29,995 has been on Cargurus 1 day and shows overpriced by $4987. The car with the 38,800 miles on the clock and asking $26,750 has been on Cargurus 376 days and is showing overpriced by $5041. The 2 cars in between one having 31,211 on the clock asking $25,850 has been on Cargurus 82 days and shows overpriced by $1,662. The other car with 34,561 on the clock and asking $25,000 has been on Cargurus for 181 days but it has salvaged title issues and no price analysis listed.

So the question is: If all things were equal and the SC with 55,987 miles on the clock asking $21,995 which is at the high end of the next mileage bracket and $1546 below the average for that bracket had the same impeccable service history as Slingshots SC 430 does would you pay $5005 more for 28,987 fewer miles or would you count on the historical reliability of the SC 430 to make it a wash?

The locations of the cars, and the states they had been used in are also important. There are many factors to consider, but this is in my top 5.
If a car meets my requirements, I won't hesitate paying more than the market value.
We, on CL, like to check Lexus's website for service records when looking to make a purchase, but when owning one, we like to do maintaince ourselves.

This is true and while I don't do my own maintenance any longer (to old and to fat but mostly lack of desire) can no longer get under my LS 460L I always go in and update the Lexus Driver service history myself. If you are not listing what maintenance you are doing on your Lexus in the Lexus Driver service history than you should be. Yes there are a ton of variables involved in all of those 60 SC 430's on Cargarus. Half or more I would not let my 10th grade English Teacher buy and I hated him.

So what would you rather have:
There is 1 2010 SC 430 listed on Cargurus right now the only 2010 listed. It is white, has 75,546 miles on the clock and they are asking $29,988 for it. It is a 2 owner car with no accident history. Been on Cargurus for 27 days with no deal info. OR a white 2006 SC 430 with 27K on the clock asking $27K

I say no to the overpriced 2010 with high mileage that has been used as a daily driver. I don't see anything special about it other than it being the last year. 2006 is worth a look, depending on how it was driven to accumulate 27k miles in 12 years.

What makes you think that the 2010 SC 430 has been a daily driver? Because it has 75,546 on the clock? I have a 2010 LS 460L that I bought in July 2014, it was made in Feb of 2010 and sold at Lexus of Miami in March of 2010. It came off lease with 18,xxx on the clock. It was bought and the guy put 10K on it and traded it back in for a MB roaster. I now have 74,208 on the clock At no time has this Lexus been a daily driver. There is a difference some people buy cars to look at and some people buy cars to drive and enjoy. I have put 45,261 miles on the clock since July of 2014. I turned 68 in May of this year and I don't have time to set around and look at how pretty it is setting in my garage, I want to enjoy the LS while I still can. I have driven it from the Pacific to the Atlantic and lots of places in between. Don't look at it Drive It.
