Default 06 SC430 price - good or not

Located a 2006 w 82k mi asking 17k clean Carfax and has good service history Only issue Is needs the 90k mi service (1500-2000 deep on timing belt tensioner, idler puller etc w ($2200) or w/o ($1500) water pump

white over black - condition seems excellent re paint and ext and interior - no operational issues w top or electronics and vehicle is at a high end pre owned import dealer in FL w great rep

What do you think would be fair price (considering the 90k service needs to be done, and that I’ll spend about $700 shopping the car to my home in Nashville

Thanks to this amazing group of SC pros and enthusiasts. You are inspiring to a novice like myself who just wants to enjoy a wonderful second vehicle I think I’ve earned at 62

thanks in advance for advice...

Hey Jeff

Great color choice ! I also have a WGC ( white gold crystal) and
one thing I can tell you is pearl white is a 3 stage paint

I actually have an 02 and I paid $20K 1.6 years ago
But my SC only had 45K

With white, they are an awesome color but ifvtheccar
was ever repainted, it will never match.

I personally would buy an SC that was never repainted
Trust me, you will not be happy if the white is a different
Shade from different angle.

I would make sure the car was not repainted and if it is
I would walk away

my.02

Jeff

Might be a little high. I just found a 05 SC 430 for my son with 77,792 miles that already had the timing belt, water pump replaced at the 65K mark if I remember right plus a new alternator at around 69K. It had every service history record from mile 5 through 76K at the same Lexus dealership. It had 4 new tires installed at the 61K mark. He gave $13,900 for it and got a 30 day 3000 mile warranty with it. It has the factory 18 inch tires with Nav and ML. I upgraded the Nav system to the latest and last supported update by Lexus last week for him at a cost of $10.95.

One, water pump does not cost $700, if you done with TB. Two, I would not buy the repainted car, for you don’t know the reason why it’s repainted. My 2 cent.

Thx much Jonas Dennis and Gman
my bad on typo I’m meant “re” to be “REGARDING” the paint
no this car is original paint , never been repainted - sorry for the confusion

Gman - I simply quoted the 150/2200(w water pump replacement) as my local Lexus Dlr Svc advisor gave me

i agree ridiculously high $ but that’s a Dealer. When I did the timing belt etc on my 99 LS400 a couple years ago (at 84k mi, now has 107k mi and is mint black:tan nakamichi the 90k timing belt tensioner idler pulley etc was $800-900 I believe Done by a Lexus Master Tech (independent now; shows how much Desler markup there is!) (but the $900 was w no water pump replacement needed as mine was fine)

Jeff, sc430 is getting rare (2006+ are low production cars) If you find the right color combo and is not repaint I would not let this car slip off unless willing to wait......

Thx Prasha - agree that nice well maintained SC430’s getting harder to find...I think they are classics and ideal for weekend cruisers and 2nd fun cars and since I can’t abode the German lack of reliability oit of warranty so very few options omparable to SC

How do you feel about black int on that SC 06/07 white gold crystal ext?

Hey Jeff

one word of caution . All dealers will tell you the car is originsl
snd has never been re painted

Have them put a paint meter on the entire car, check the vin
sticker on every panel. And check if the bumpers matched

I Paid probably 1-2K more for my 02. I could have bought
an 07 White Pebble Beach ( white /red interior and a very rare car)
but the car was discovered repainted. All mechanical even checked out
I walked away. Trust me on this, you will thank me for reminding you
about this

When buying a “ white Pearl “ used car, it will never match again
if any panels were re painted. The dealer will try to blend the panels
but the car will never match

walk away if the car has been repainted

my .02

You can buy the Aisin Timing Belt Kit (including water pump, pulleys, etc.) on Amazon for around $180 and have a good independent shop install it for around $500.

The white SC looks pretty nice, but I know there are a LOT of nice SC430s out there if you look nationwide via CarGurus, Autotrader, etc. Owners tend to keep these cars well maintained and low mileage, and the prices have continued to drop slowly for the 2006+ models. I paid $25,500 for my 2006 2 years ago. Mine was a 1-owner with 17K miles, and was immaculate. It now has 21K miles and is still perfect. I did pay to have a new timing belt installed, despite the low miles, since it was a 12 year old car and I didn't want to risk the engine.

Good luck!

+1 I think the price is fair and the SC430 holds it's value well.

I have silver/black since 2002. I prefer light color car because it does not get too hot in the sun. (Silver does not show dirt, just loses the shine!) Prefer black interior (1) classic rich look with wood interior (2) low maintenance, however the black seats cool off quick by keeping the door open for a minute or so and then A/C....

If you buying from a dealer the art of negotiation works, but this car they can get close to retail at some auctions because international buyers also bid online.

i just bought my 06 sc430 in december 2017.
original owner california car, 96k miles, timing belt etc changed at 87k. dealer serviced, no accidents on record. some paint chips/door dings but very clean overall.

paid 15k + taxes. the dealer said the price was non negotiable but i found some things that needed to be replaced (front rotors warped, rear calipers missing hardware, bad ball joints) so they threw in a 3 year 36k warranty with some 2nd hand company.

already used it as the radiator started leaking, so they replaced the radiator and ball joints for free, but i had to pay for the radiator hoses and clamps (weird warranty). the brakes i did myself because i wanted to upgrade anyway.

threw some wheels on it since it came with the chrome TRD ones that i am not fond of.

Update - Seller down from $17k to $15.4 (really is is $15.9 w shipping - But...
1) Id still have $1150 for my local Lex pro tech to do timing belt, water pump, etc 90k svc
2) (the seller's $599 doc fee (as we all know just another way of saying dealer profit)

thinking my best and final offer should be $15,250 (really w shipping that would be $15,750 -But only IF
1) that price includes the doc fee
2) they have the 90k svc done by their local Lexus dealer (that way a Lex dlr sees the vehicle, in case they find anything major needed beyond the 90k mi svc like top operation, other electronics, etc - Note: all seems fine and no issues, but buying long distance, Id rather have a Lexus dlr see before shipping just in case...Note - the brakes, rotors, even CV joint and new tires done 20k mi ago at 61k mi (now at 82k mi)
3) the dealer/seller arranges the shipping (even tho id still be paying that $500, as part of the deal)

thoughts??
