rikncar (Rick)

The timing belt and water pump was changed at 66,739 miles, new motor mounts at 69,240, new front pads and rotors turned at 69,240, power steering flush 69,240 at Lindsay Lexus of Alexandria. 4 wheel alignment at 71,883, replaced airbag inflator assembly at 75,893. The whole service history is like this clear back to 5 miles on 8/5/2005. Hot in Nebraska today. (91?) Passing through Omaha on Sunday. Have a great weekend.

Not having SC but LS I have to take the LS to get the data updated. On the SC that the son just bought will it update off of the DVD if he puts Version 15.1 into the head unit? It is not that easy on my LS no do it yourself upgrade for the Nav

On the SC it’s in the trunk. Pull off the cover plate, slide the lock, press the button. DVD drawer opens just like a DVD home movie. Pick up the old DVD place the new one on the tray, push the button, slide the lock, replace the cover plate - done.

Do it like Bob said and the DVD will update the unit with newer maps and any firmware updates.

my 2007 still had the original disk when I inserted the 15.1 disk, no issues except it’s an old, not very useful Navigation device. but for $10 it was worth it to have the latest maps.

i like others use Waze and a vent magnet to hold the phone in front of the cold air. My iPhone gets warm when charging and running the GPS but stays cool in front of the vent. If you live up north, I guess the vent magnet may not work so well in the cold months. For us it’s usually only January.

Thanks guys. He lives in Richmond, VA. For $10 it is worth updating. I will order it for him after he checks to see what version he has installed. Which I am not sure how to do on the SC. On the LS it is easy. Hit the Nav button select info and there it is.

Data ver # 15.1 printed on the DVD disc will be an improvement than anything that is in there now.
And a final one too.

Called Son yesterday and per Bob's instructions had son pop out the DVD installed and it was version 4.1 which I assume was the version installed back when it was new? Anyway ordered him PT219-Gen04-15 per BGW70's post. It should be there by Saturday the 2nd of June. Thanks for all the help in getting the Nav Version figured out and updated to the most current available.

Just as a heads up...tell your son not to expect any sort of wiz bang upgrades from version 4.1 to 15.1. The hardware is the same. Really only updating the data, i.e. the map data, new streets, changes to them, new places etc etc. The actual look and feel of the GPS system will still feel dated.

Bob

I understand and I am sure he will/can use his phone if it is required. But at least the systems will now have the most up to date info that was available when Lexus stop supporting it.

Quick question. Once the new DVD arrives does he just swap out the DVD's and the new one will just do it's thing and update the head unit or does he need to take any other steps to accomplish the update?

Nope, nothing else. Just take out the old one, put in the new one. Although he may have to select the correct area of the Country. Lexus USA GPS maps are broken into multiple zones. He will go into the menu setup and the select the correct zone of the USA for the portion of the map he’s using the GPS for.

I know the Son's 2005 SC 430 came out of the factory with run flats so there is no spare and I assume no jack or lug wrench. Is there room in the trunk for a spare? I see you can buy a new SC 430 OEM rim for his car for $178 plus shipping. Is there space for it? I am guessing he has run flats which as I understand from posts here really suck. I have never had run flats on any car we have ever owned so I have no knowledge of the ride. Someone has posted that they got rid of the run flats and added a spare I believe.

Thoughts Please

Dennis
look at this thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...c-430-a-3.html post #36 has a PDF on the Lexus spare tire kit. Yeah, it’s expensive. But looks sharp compare to just a a loose spare tire in the trunk which prevents the top from going down.

the kit works on all SC430s 2002-2010
