Default Door Issues with SC430

Hi All

I have a 2002 SC430 which I've owned for over 10 years. There have been a number of incidents where friends when getting in and out of my car, have hit the door on something nearby (cement block, post, etc). The doors are big as you all know, but also it seems like they don't have any control when they open, they just fly open. How can I fix this? Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks!
Natasha

This is the part he is referring to. But it sounds like you need to ask your passengers to
more careful when opening the big heavy door. There is a halfway point where the door
“pauses”, but it will swing all the way open without much additional effort.

Thank you both! Yes I tell every passenger when they come in and out (makes me look overly paranoid) but alas, still gets dinged from time to time.

I always drop my passengers off at the door of where we are going and then go park my car myself so I can find the perfect spot and not get ridiculed by my passengers for A making them walk and B telling them to be careful opening the doors Most people don't feel a cars guy pain when they get a door ding like we do.

+1, no, +10, on what mrblister just said. I can’t count how many times I’ve searched for an end space or one away from all others. A few extra steps, is worth protecting the car from those who don’t care.

Yep - I'm also that guy with the great condition looking car that drops his passengers off out front, and doesn't mind a bit walking a little to get to that wide open end parking space.
