Default 17" wheels/tires for SC430

I’m thinking of going to a 17” wheel on my 2002 SC430 in order to get a smoother ride. Just replaced struts/shocks about 10k ago, so I’m not going to do coil-overs….rear bushings are ok as it was manufactured after the upgrade.
Been running (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3-non runflats), but would still like a softer and quieter tire.

Anybody got experience going to a 17”? I’m looking to add some sidewall height for more compliance. The 245/45/17 is a match in outer dimensions, but only adds .4” of extra sidewall….don’t know if that will make a big enough difference in ride.
A 50 series would give more sidewall height (+.9”), but it would also be taller (+.9). The added height of a 50 series concerns me because of “jounce” while the front wheels are turned….don’t want to hit the fender edges.
So, has anyone tried a 50 series tire? Will it hit... will it fit when turned? What size is best? Brand?

Thanks all.

Below are some tire stats:

245/40/18
diam 25.7”
sidwall 3.9"

245/45/17
diam 25.7"
sidewall 4.3" (+.4")

245/50/17
diam 26.6"
sidewall 4.8 (+.9”)

Go to tires.com and put in your car. It lets you see tires 2 sizes smaller and 3 sizes bigger.

Here are 17 inch tires that will fit your car. The warning means you need to get new rims; you can't use your 18 inch rims

If you wanted the biggest sidewall, my guess 255/45 or 235/50 would be the winner

Costco by mistake put your tires on my 08. 900 miles later they put the super sports instead, Very noticeable ride improvement. Plus less noise and the car steered better.

Not perfect but a major improvement. Not all season. But no snow/ice in ca. Worked fine in rain.

chsnge tires first imo.

shock valuing is wrong. Too much high speed dampening not enough low speed. Shock blows through the travel and is too stiff on sharp edges.

meister r is one fix I understand.

the top rated Michelin’s and the bigger rear sway bar and the front tower brace helped the ride and the boat feeling enough that I have not progressed on the aftermarket coil, overs yet. The 08 has different shocks than the pre 06 so your results may vary.
