Navigation and Radio problem on 2003 SC430

Hello Everyone! I'm hoping someone here can help me out with my cars problem. When i start the car, the navigation begins to turn on and then it powers down...same thing with my radio, but the radio does not power down, just no audio comes out (I can adjust the fader and switch to CD or radio still, and car antennae goes up and down). Please help! This is so frustrating!

I don't have a direct answer for you, but my first guess is there is a problem in your trunk. Both the NAV system and the Stereo AMP are located back there (Side by side)

From your description, it sounds like your radio is working and finding the stations, but the amp isn't putting out any sound.

I would guess either a bad fuse/relay or a loose connection.

Thank you for your input. If the amp is the reason there is no sound from the radio, is it the same reason the navigation shuts down?

i agree with DD, if it were only the amp, I would say you may need a new amp but since they both quit working it seems like a common connection.

a fuse is either good or bad, once bad, that is it and it needs to be replaced.

when the NAV screen goes blank, leave the key on and go to the trunk to see if you can eject the NAV DVD. This would tell you if the NAV unit is still working or has power.

Now that I think about it, I remember there is a Fuse Panel in the trunk. I would look in there and see if all the fuses are good. It's a flip up door in the carpeted section to the left of the NAV door.

I just had my TPMS replaced. Do you think they forgot to connect something? Sorry, not experienced with this problem.

I'm also going to mention that it works (randomly) after i have been driving the car for a while. Also i noticed that the problem happens after the car has been sitting for a day or so.

no, that really is not possible.

BTW, who did the TPMS replacement?

Leom257 12-14-17 01:57 PM

The TPMS replacement was done by the car dealership i bought it from. Note: the dealership was not Lexus

Okay, to review...

the NAV screen show roads and the icon with your current position, you can tell it to take you somewhere.
the radio is also operational with music coming from the speakers.

when it stops working...
the sceen goes dark and the radio does not create any sound but it does show stations etc.

is that correct?

Leom257 12-14-17 02:15 PM

Yes that’s correct.

Thank you got replying. Here is a better summary of the problem (some times it starts and it’s fine): when I start the car, the Navi turns on for 3 seconds (estimated time) and then shuts off. Also happening is there is no audio coming from radio. The lights on the radio are on and I can switch from CD to radio (car antenna goes up) but no audio.

Also I noticed that when the problem happens, if I drive a while it sometimes works again. I just have to randomly turn on Navi and radio and sometimes it works. Most of the time it does not. Sometimes restarting the car after it’s been on a while fixes the issue

these are the hardest to figure out and I would say the unit that controls both the NAV and amp is the culprit...

Leom257 12-14-17 02:36 PM

Can you tell me more about the unit you mention?

Leom257 12-14-17 02:39 PM

Also thanks for the replies. I appreciate any help I can get
