In the front right by Oil filler cap
right under the engine cover

most likely the 03 is the plug and pulled PCV value
I had my 02 PCV replaced and it was the same plug
And pull off PCV value

I have an 2004 and the PVC value is located on the drivers side front corner, top front of the engine, directly on the driver's side valve cover or right next to it (can't remember precisely). It is covered by a thick flexible insulated foam cover that looks like a hose so its kind of disguised. It is threaded into the engine so you will definitely need a box wrench to remove and install new PVC valve in a 2004 SC.

The pcv system is one of the most overlooked by the car care community. A proper functioning one is more important than most realize. The sc uses a spring loaded type. Just because it rattles doesn't mean it's ok. The spring can be broken and still rattle. If it doesn't rattle it means it's stuck, or plugged. If a hose is cracked or loose, you are allowing unmetered, unfiltered air in the engine. A pcv system not operating correctly can cause any of the following problems. Excessive oil consumption, oil drawn into the clean side of the system, accelerated oil contamination, high crankcase pressure. Blown seals, contamination of catalytic converters. Not worth it over a $8 part.

Many by new cars don't use spring loaded valves anymore. They use oil separators, or fixed orifice valve. This doesn't mean no maintenance though.

I checked on mazon and it appears that the PCV valve changed in certain years of SC’s, is this accurate? In the beginning they used the plain gasket plug in type PCV. Then it was changed to a screw type?

I saw an old post that shows where the PCV is on an LS430, that should be it for our SC430, at least for the earlier years. It is hidden on a foam covered connection, right beside the Oil stick shaft.

my 03 was a push in type. I don't know about later models, when/if changes were made.

02-03 is the only year it is the push in type and not the thread screwed in
Type. It takes a mechanic 5 minutes to pull out and replace
just make sure the plastic plug is also changed . With the screwed in type, if it freezes , it would take work to get out
Just don't let it fall into the engine . As they aged the plastic plug hardens and then it can becomes a problem taking the plug out

I also have an 01RX 300 and the older RX was known
for oil consumption due to clogged PVC

I have a 2004 SC430. It has a threaded PCV valve. I used OEM Toyota replacement parts ( PCV valve, foam cover & hose ). Here are some photos :

#1. Engine cover, two 10mm nuts and lift up. #2 Cover removed. #3 Vacuum line disconnected. Remove foam cover to expose PCV valve.

I have an 03 and peaked into mine. I saw the push type PCV and it sits cockeyed. I think that's the reason why they went to screwed type.

I definitely need to tear it down and replace it. I can see some hint of gas escape, subtle but it is there. Suggest similar owners do the same.

I will take a picture and will post, once I tear it down (for me it means I need to take my strut bars off...)

Parts came in, this is the weekend assignment.

Completed the PCV replacement for the plug in type PCV. 2004 and up use the screw in type. This is because Toyota know it tended to skew.

1. The Grommet was brittle and had to slowly remove it, it broke into pieces. Luckily none ended up inside.

2. The valve was dirty and cruddy.

3. The PCV was actually crooked almost leaving a leak.

Had to remove my Strut bars, added 30 minutes to a 15 minute job.

Now it is good for another 100K miles. Highly suggest you replace yours, for such cheap part cost, well worth the effort.

Is there much that you had to do to get down to it? From Floptop's pictures, it looks like an a/c hose has to be removed.
