I'm not a huge fan of the new Lexus body, especially that elongated front grill. It seems the LS is one of the few models that kept its more refined look with the smaller grill and clean lines, which is something I really love about the SC.

Gotta say, one of the things I like most about the SC's lines is the sleek curved backside. More sleek than aggressive, unlike the LF C2

Good opinions and discussion. I randomly stumbled across it on my Facebook feed. No other information other than the photos and the planned badge. I would definitely be interested in one of these. I would, of course, want more information on the power plant and I can bet there will be an F-Sport version. Not a fan of those wheels or that color, though. But, I hope you all agree to the SC430 likeness.
i remember seeing these yellow convertible pictures for quite a while. They ( or at least some pretty close version of it ) have been on the Lexus website for maybe 6-9 months. No info on engine etc but would be happy to know more.
I saw this on a couple auto web blogs. Speculation is that Toyota has not yet decided whether to build it; has almost every conceivable option available these days and is rumored to be priced near $150k.
Lexus wanted to fight the sleepy conservative image the brand had evolved by creating a new front end that screamed Lexus from 100 yards away. Well mission accomplished but many would argue not in a good way. I'm hoping the current hideous styling trend of putting the fugly "Lexus signature" front end on every model is almost over.
I for one will never buy a Lexus with that silly front end. At some point I'm hoping the design chief at Toyota/Lexus is going to come to their senses and realize that the cartoon-ish silly front treatment is a really bad idea - sadly sometimes really bad styling ideas (and this one is really really bad) take a lot of courage to back away from.
Would love to know what the drag co-ef is on that. Idk why, but it's one of my favorite specs of the SC being only .30. Considering this styling is a little more rough and rugged around the edges, opposed to being rounded, I'd bet the SC still takes the cake.
In agreement about the front grill, it's not unique, a little less luxury, and little more sporty/trying-too-hard-to-appeal-to-younger-people... they should really stay away from that to preserve their image as a luxury-only brand, imo.
Additionally, with only being able to see part of the rear end in that third photo, it looks like they are trying to mimic Ferrari's a little bit?
Also, anybody got eyes on pics with the top-up anywhere online??
As cool as that car is nothing compares to the SC 430.
Till this day the car doesn't look outdated like most cars on the road.
For example the BMW's have looked pretty timeless except the transition from the E90's to the F30's have been lackluster. They are basically the same car.
I agree that the direction Lexus is taking with the over-the-top spindle grill is WAY off the mark! I am a huge fan of the "old Lexus" design philosophy of understated elegance, refinement, and impeccable reliability wrapped in conservative clothing. The new front ends look like they are trying too hard to get the young crowd on board, at the expense of us older (and wealthier) clients.
I finally parted with my 2008 LS600hL this past week, and couldn't convince myself to go with a newer LS460 due in part to the horrible front end styling (and the lackluster interior compared to competitors). I wound up leasing a new Genesis G90 to replace my LS600, and man what a classy car that one is! Modern, understated, powerful, and rare (so far). Like Lexus used to be...
I don't plan to ever part with my SC430, though, there's really nothing that compares, and the design is timeless...
Don't' get me wrong, in terms of performance, Lexus has really stepped up their game. There use to be a handful of models from the ES, LS and the SC then came the RX's and the IS's of the world. I think they have leaned more on the performance side due to their racing ambitions. One of the criteria for participating in these races are production numbers.
Hence, the ambitious sportier models that must meet production levels. New models tailored towards a younger generation will produce these sharp, jagged angles with big grills. On a performance level I believe the car in the OP is fantastic but from a styling standpoint not so great.
