SC430 2001-2010 has a timing belt and replacement interval recommended by Lexus is 90K miles or 7 years. In practice most folks who are under mileage tend to go longer than 7 years. I replaced my TB right after I bought the car - it had 30k miles but was 12 years old. That does not in any way, shape, or form mean I'm asserting that the TB will last 12 years.... I replaced my TB on a 2006 LS430 (exact same engine) at 90K miles when the car was 10 years old.

Just did the 90k service to replace timing belt & water pump on my 2004 SC430 with 94k miles. Belt was in moderate shape & water pump has tiny tiny leak.

What was the dealer cost to replace both belt and water pump? I'm look to purchase a 2004 SC with 102,000 miles. The car fax show no service for either belt or pump. Interested in what this will cost to have done at dealership.

Dealer will charge $1500 easy if not higher.

Toyota will charge less.

Any certified Toyota shop can do it for about $1Kish

A good-qualified mechanic will charge $450 to $500, parts will cost $250ish.

My local Lexus dealer cost just under $1100 (using a 10% off coupon) for WP and TB and serpentine belt replacement. My dealer mails out 10 and 15% off service coupons a few times a year.

Mine was done by my long term mechanic shop

It cost $790 for the following

1. new OEM Water pump & timing belt
2. Replaced all spark plug
3. Replaced driver lock actuator (I supplied OEM parts)
4. Oil change - Mobil 1

I recently purchased a 2003 Lexus SC430 and had Lexus and our local Lexus repair shop go over the car. I purchased the car from Lexus at 105K miles and they recommended I have a the timing belt and water pump changed. I certainly questioned why they did not do that and include it in the car purchase for $991.00 , which of course they will do it and add it to the cost. I checked with the local repair shop and they will do it for $800. When the local repair shop went over the car to check for other problems, they said it appeared that the timing belt had already been changed by looking at a bent tab or something that usually occurred after a timing belt had been replaced. I had the dealer call the Lexus dealer who had done most of the work, the Toyota repair shop who had done the most recent work and neither said it had been replaced by them. Any thoughts on how to determine this for sure without having it done twice? I also had them call the last owner who said he did not, and they were unable to get ahold of the previous owner, yet that Lexus agency said it had not been done there. Any ideas?

The only thing that can be done is to go through the motion of replacing the belt. Once you open it up, you can tell if the belt is new and there are no leaks.

Normally if the timing belt was done correctly, there is a sticker they fill up and stuck to an area in the engine bay, indicating mileage when the belt was replaced.
