Ok, I ordered the part and took the A/C unit out - carefully! It should arrive in 4-5 days. We're taking the SC430 to the beach this weekend so I may not get to it until Monday or Tuesday but will post pics when I have everything together!

Working intermittently does sound more like the switch. The light being on doesn't mean much. It has separate wires connected to the illumination circuit.

Check the back of the switch and make sure the plastic cover is snapped in (the little piece on the back of the switch assembly.) If one side isn't locked in place, when you push the button, it just pushes the circuit board back. I had this happen to me when I was experimenting with my switch a while ago. The plastic button part that lights up has a stop on it, so you wouldn't notice.

Also check the plug and make sure it is plugged in all the way. And finally (worse scenario) the wires to the switch could be damaged where it is ziptied (if it is - I've seen them with and without zipties.)

Either way, it looks like you already ordered the whole assembly. If it comes with a new switch, then I guess problem taken care of anyway.

Thanks! I ordered a switch off eBay and it didn't work, but I thought it might be worth a shot. In the vehicle history Lexus identified it as the "assembly" (not to mention the fix was north of $1,000) so I'd figured I'd start with the switch first. The assembly was $179 and does come with the wire from the assembly to the switch, so we'll see if that fixes it. I think it will.

I'm ok with the door open but thought it might be an easy fix. If it fails after this I'm going to leave it!

Ok, so I swapped the motor for the door out and it works great! The dealer wanted $1,200 or so and I fixed it for $179 and a little bit of work. I actually like being able to keep it closed now and still play music by using the Mode button. Love it!

Here is what it looked like when I took the radio out...I used a little painters tape to protect the sides:

And after everything is back together....

Yeah, send me a PM with the details. It will probably need changing out again eventually!

i posted a link to the thread where I did some work on the NAV screen. Anyway, here is the link to the motor for the NAV screen, it may be the same motor.
open up the bad unit and see if the motor is the same.

It looks the same! But I've never soldered anything in my life haha. Could it also be related to the circuit board where the plug goes into the unit? Or is it more than likely the motor?

well, if you applied 12v directly to the motor, you would know. If the motor moves the door like your new one, then the motor is not the problem.

soldering is actually easy, just watch some YouTube videos and practice on some spare wire.
i had formal training back in the 80s compliments of the tax payers via the US Air Force.

in my case with the NAV screen, it was more than the motor and I just decided to purchase a salvage yard unit...all is still good and the old one is in my attic.

Ok, I gave the assembly to my step-daughter. Her boyfriend has a 12V tester AND a soldering station (engineering students) and he will test it for me in the next day or so.
Update: he tested the motor and said it works! next we're going to check the circuit boards on the assembly and see if we can determine the failure point.

So made it to the beach (about a 2hr drive) and now my Nav door is stuck open! lol. Pulled out the A/C controls and checked to make sure everything is seated...but all worked well yesterday and this morning so not sure why it stopped working? At any rate, I'll keep troubleshooting. It may be that something is off track because the Nav works fine. These open/close doors look like a common failure point on the SC430...

I'm confused. Which door you're having problem with? The Nav or the radio?

At first it was the radio cover door, but now it's the nav door. The nav door became inoperable a day or so after I fixed the radio door! I pulled the A/C unit out and checked the connections and everything was fine. Plus, I've driven the car and few times and both doors open/closed without a problem. Now the nav door is stuck open. Navigation screen / tilt works just fine.

yes, check the tracks and make sure all of the screws on each side are tight...or snug and not loose. Somehow the screws get loose on almost all of the NAV units and the door jumps the tracks.
