Default How often do your drive your SC ?

Now that Spring is here and close to drop top weather in CA
I am just curious how many miles are the SC fans out there
driving their cars each week ?

I see there are some SC owners with only 10-30K miles
Get the horses out of the stable Gang !!

We are on the SE gulf coast and drive the SC year round and almost every day of the week. In winter its great for mid afternoon sunny days, and in mid summer its great for sunset and evening drives along the coast. The climate where we live makes having a convertible a real joy.

Ever since I bough the SC, I planned to drive 100 miles per week, 400 per month or 5K a year. So far, I owned the SC for 18 months and drove only 3K. Guess I have to drive more this summer to catch up.

GmanSC

It looks like you don't drive your SC much.
Remember even if you don't drive the car much,
it is always a good idea to run the A/C each time especially
on the colder months you
take her out or the Freon will slowly leak . I have a 85 380SL with
100K and my A/C is still cold

Thanks Jonas, I ran the A/C every time I drove the car. It's still cold like ice box. Another thing I learned was, if you don't run the A/C often, you will get the rotten egg smell from the mildew.

And yes, you have to run the AC, the refrigerant contains lubricants and sealers. It is summer (soon) and that’s the time you need to make sure you get the mold out of the evaporator that causes the pungent smell.

We'll probably log around 4K a year. Bought as a fun third car to save miles on our other cars.

Yea, most car owners that don't drive their cars much forget they
should always run the A/C at least once each month .

I have never had to refill my Freon or have a leak and all I do
is make sure all the A/C seals and system is being runned

SC430 is my daily commute car, putting on 10k miles/year. I figure the car will expire in 20 years, just like mileage in your frequent flier account---if you don't use it you lose it. And my SC430 is ten years old at 125K miles, with 250k miles/20 year the car typically can run I think my rate of usage is still short of the optimum .

We plan on driving ours 5k or so miles a year. In NC we can even get some nice 75-80 degree days in the winter and take it out on those, too.

I live in Rochester NY, but winter in Naples FL. My 07 is in storage up home. We will be back north in May and will get the car on the road right away. It is my preferred transportation when I am home. I put on about 3,000 miles during the summer season. Would probably take it to Florida except for the fact that 430SCs are a dime a docen down here in Naples.

The SC430 is pretty rare here in Nebraska. I only put around 3K miles per year on mine, but I do try to take it out whenever the roads are dry to keep everything loosened up. Great tip about the A/C... I hadn't considered that, but will start making a point to run it every time I take the car out.

Come on Gang

There is no point in having a " Strong Horse" if you
never take it out of the stable

All kidding aside, I can see why all the SC fans love their
car and keep it in prestine condition but if you let it sit
for months without usage, your engine gaskets ,A/C seals
will dry out over time. I happen to have 4 cars but I still make
it a habit to take each horse out each week but again I live
in sunny year round CA though

Happy Motoring !
