Advice on what to buy please.
Hi Gang,
First of all, I would like to thank the moderators for their dedication and their in-depth knowledge on SC430! I have spent hours reading all of your post and grateful for the knowledge. I have been in the market for a SC 430 and found several beauties, I would love your professional input and advice on my two choices...
1. PB 2007 SC430 for $21,000 with 84K : 3 owners, no accidents, maintenance records stated, but I have not viewed them.
2. 2002 SC430 for $9,000 with with 107K (Red/Ecu) 1 owner, no accidents, Maintenance records missing ( private mechanic) However, Lexus does show oil changes regularly.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.... I know you recommend 2006 and greater, do you think 21K is a good price for a PB "Candy Cane" ?
With a deep respect, Linda 2007 PB SC430 with 84K for $21K
2002 SC430 with 107K for 9,000

Is the actual picture of 20017 PB SC? Its a pics for someone sold his 07 PB few years ago and taken in Staten Island, NY. I would beware of the seller if he/she not posting their own pics

Thanks Grabber2,
Yes, looking at the Auto Check record it was originally from NY. The owner said he purchased it a year ago and it is parked at his condo in Phoenix Arizona. He is at another location in Az. He said it is in mint condition, new tires, and new tint windows... he is willing to let me have it for 19K. In your opinion, do you think the PB is worth the added cash, over the 2002 and will it hold its value?

...the PB edition will definitely be worth more than a regular Sc, depending on condition, mileage etc.....the 2007 will offer more goodies, compared to the earlier models (2002-05) also. If it is possible, I would try to see both cars in person, before making a decision, It's very easy to show the "good side" in a picture, but there may be some flaws that you're unaware of & might make you steer away from one or the other

Both cars are good options. But it all depends on how many miles you drive, how long you plan to keep the car and how they feel in person. Some of things like how they drive can only be appreciated during test drive. The difference in 02 and 07 in performance is small, but to some people it may justify the extra cost. If it feels the same to you then I would say 02 is a better deal.

If you like the color RED like my wife does I'd go for the 2002. 3 owners in the past 10 years for the 2007 Less than half price for similar miles, one owner. Yep, the red one for me but try & see it & drive first.

Just spoke to the 2002 SC 430 (107K) $9.5K seller: The brother is selling it for his sister. Her husband had just past-on and he maintained the SC for her. They are trying to find the maintenance records. The Brother did disclose it was her car, and during the latest check up, the mechanic told her that it will need a new radiator soon for a cost of $350, Not leaking yet ( I called a local radiator shop and got the same price) and the VDC/Check Engine light will come on and off. ( I have review the VDC post that this may or may not be a issue...
SC 430 owners Please provide me your input ... he is willing to reduce the price because of the needed repairs.

Linda, if the private owner is selling the car the title should match the name of owner. You should insist seeing the title and trying to verify its his sister's. Quite often, the car flippers make up stories to sell cars they just bought at auctions and selling it for a relative is always one of the story lines. If things do not add up I would let it pass. I just do not like the idea of seller being dishonest, and it being an auction car.

Thanks Guys! Should I get a photo of the Title and her Driver license prior to going out to see it? It is a 2 .5 hour Drive in So. California traffic for me. Do you think the radiator and the VDC light is an issue?

My guess is that the seller would not be able to provide the DL if he is a flipper. If I were you I would be honest with him by saying that you would not be interested buying a car from a dealer in disguise and see how he would respond.
