An 2002 with only 21k? Man, you’re lucky. Many consider that is bad for the engine, cause the car has not been driven enough. To me, I think the less driving means less wear and tear, not just for the engine but for everything else.

I just purchased my SC430 Red/Ecru for $8,500. The Lexus Drivers service history shows the car was delivered on 5/10/2001 with 5 miles. Now it has 139,000 miles, and with the exception of some rock chips on the front it looks brand new. The car was leased for the first year, then purchased from the guy I just bought it from. I was concerned about the mileage, but a review of the service record shows he had it in for service every 5000 miles, and he's repaired or replaced just about everything I read about as being a problem on this web site. I'll need to get the timing belt replaced (he did it at 70k miles in 2007), I'll replace the pie plate wheel covers with the twists recommended on this forum, and I'm replacing the original radio with something that has Appleplay. I already replaced the runflat tires.

Since mine is such an early model is there any way to find out how many were delivered before mine?

Welcome! The production number can be found at the end of your VIN...my '02 is #10795. Google VIN Decoder and it will give you a lot of other cool information on your vehicle.

the last six of your VIN may help give you an idea, but it may also be all Lexus.

this link will help with actual numbers and other info!

Thanks for the VIN decoder info, new information to me. My VIN ends in 006092. I don't know how they can call it a 2002 when it was delivered in May of 01, but oh well!

if those numbers only apply then I would say you have number 6092 of 14462, based on the link I gave you.

as for the year, when you see car commercials, they always start having the year end sales around September. When you head to the dealer the next year is already on the lot.

A lot of the original owners of the SC430s that came out in 2001 call their cars the 2001 model. But yes, as BGW mentioned, most cars are introduced in the year prior to their model year. My car is just the opposite of yours, my 2002 was built in either June or July of 2002 and still considered a 2002.

Yes, early 2001, according to the original owner. He had owned an SC400 prior to that, and he was forever asking his dealer when Lexus was going to do a replacement after the original was concelled. So as soon they were confirmed for production, the dealer ordered a couple, and reserved one for this guy. He owned my 2002, and also has a 2006 that he kept when he sold the green one to me.

Interesting, I've seen that table in the other thread while researching the SC. IIRC, those are US sales numbers only.

EDIT: Here we go - including Canada sales, but not other countries: http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2013/05...es-usa-canada/ You can see why I bought mine in the US - pretty rare bird up here in the GWN.

I had $2000 deposit at Tustin Lexus for about 6 months, on wait list. The car offered to me was not my desired color combo, Someone offered me $10k cash to transfer my allotment to his name, dealership declined to cooperate. Those days dealerships were adding $10K - $15K to the list price for cars in inventory (like my car?) by adding aftermarket wheels upgrade.

post up some pics of your beauty when you can!

also consider changing the transmission fluid
brake fluid and power steering fluid if it has never been done.
