Anti-am, we aren't in Lexus any more!
Just installed an ebay "standard" aftermarket rear antenna in 02 SC430. It seems the motor doesn't shut off after it has retracted...keeps reeling x15" or so and shuts off (with key off). Not that civilized an effect-mechanic says it's the 2nd replacement and the motor must have broken teeth or need replacement. It's too late for comparison, but would anyone comment if the aftermaker unit, if even slightly smaller in length, is causing the motor to keep pulling in, if it is searching for more nylon gear?
Any trick to fix this...besides unplugging? Antenna fine going up...but I think this might break the gear line soon if it continues grinding on way down?

Sounds like the replacement mast may not be correct.

You might ask the mechanic to reinstall it. Also, make sure that he was able to get all of the old antenna out.

I just replaced my antenna mast last week. I bought mine from this guy http://www.ebay.com/itm/370943904514?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I read somewhere that if the motor doesn't stop running it could be the teeth aren't tall enough to trigger the tension/pressure switch in the antenna.
I also found this guy who took his antenna motor apart to get the broken mast cable out. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/audio/powerantenna.html
I agree with Harold though; the first step I would take is to try and re-install it

Thats a good guide. Im replacing my antenna mast soon due to the fact that I broke mine. i kept driving under my father's tree and wonder what sounded like something elastic from the back of the car bouncing. and it finally broke.
