Default Convertible top problem

Top won't close, the button seems to be dead,my question is can you replace the button that opens and closes or do you need to replace the whole climate control panel.there are no codes that show up.when I press the button down the windows go down but no top working, package tray in the trunk is closed and luggage button is off.jimbo

Do you have a code reader ? The error codes that would show up are unique to lexus ? You would need there softwear to see them .and the obd2 reader

jimbo, have you checked the various fuses?

ebear, make sure your cover in the trunk is well seated.

had the same issue in October and this week. Dealer told me that the mechanism had "slipped off" each time. Charge was $220 both times so I let it slide. But my battery was also low in October and dead this week. I am now wondering if the car was producing enough power to retract the top. It's a special kind of battery ($160 at autozone...dealer wanted $270!) so I wonder if it has something to do with battery power as well.

I had to replace a battery after 8 years I went to firestone and bought an interstate megatron plus cost 153.70 tax and installed MTP-48/H6.

well, took the SC to my indie mechanic (best I've ever used) to have the top problem tackled. After several hours of work he found my problem to be a broken metal tab down in the mech. this tab is required to hook a spring which in turn allows a open/close sensor/switch to activate and deactivate. there is no way around this part. the system is so complicated that the switch is used when opening and closing. When the switch is open the top with work only partially and at that point the switch closes and allows the top to complete its movement. Now the fun begins to actually find a replacement part via the factory or the bone yard. If you need a top notch indie mechanic, mine is in Monrovia, Ca. clean professional shop, very very reasonable pricing (actually best I found in SoCal).

You mean you only tried to raise and lower the top with the engine off and never tried to raise and lower the top with the engine on???

For what it is worth, I always raise and lower the top with the engine running.
