Default Please help!! VSV valve replacement

Dear experts,

I have a 2004 Lexus SC430 with 40K on the clock

The mechanics has diagnosed VSV (vacuum switching valve)( of which the part is not expensive) fault in mid-engine causing CEL and VSC lights to be on

The quote for Labor is 8 hours!!!

My enquiries is whether it takes this long to replace the vacuum switching valve in midengine??

Thank you so much for helping me!!

Claire

Default Is this a joke?

Are you saying that a Vacuum Switching Valve was quoted 8 hours of labor? That's insane. The VSV is a little valve that takes about 5 minutes to replace. You can buy one for $50 at advance auto. I'm more than happy to write a tutorial on how to change this. It's super easy. Did your 'mechanic' indicate a OBD2 code? Did you go alone or with a guy?

just changed mine 2001 sc430. part was tiny but cost over £70. Actual part is connected by one 5mm philips screw. But reaching it. OUCH!
1 TAKE OFF TOP ENGINE COVER. TWO TEN MM BOLTS AND LIFT OFF. EASY
2 REMOVE AIR FILTER HOUSING. THREE TEN MM BOLTS TWO RUBBER HOSES. EASY
3 FOUR TEN MM BOLTS HOLDING WIRING LOOM AND ONE TWELVE MM. TRICKY
4 DISCONNECT ALL ELECTRICS AROUND THIS BIG METAL BLOCK, INLET MANIFOLD. INCLUDING CONNECTORS TO INJECTORS. PLUGS ARE BLUE, INJECTORS ARE PINK. GETTING TOUGH NOW
5 NOW. TEN TWELVE MM BOLTS HOLDING DOWN THE INLET MANIFOLD. BIG METAL LUMP SITTING ON TOP OF THE ENGINE.TOUGH
6 RELEASE SMALL RUBBER HOSES AT FRONT. THREE. WATCH OUT FOR ANTI FREEZE LOSS. MESSY
7 GENTLY LIFT OFF INLET MANIFOLD. CAREFUL BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOT DISCONNECTED THE FUEL PIPE. OPTIONAL. REALLY HARD
8 USE WOODEN BLOCKS TO SUPPORT THE MANIFOLD
9 AT THE FRONT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE A BLACK PLASTIC CONTAINER. SIZE OF A HALF PINT BEAKER
10 RELEASE THE TWO TEN OR WAS IT TWELVE MM BOLTS
11 TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN. BINGO. THERE IS THE THREE INCH LITTLE BLEEP BLEEP
12 REMOVE THE SINGLE PHILLIPS SCREW
13 ONE AT A TIME, DO NOT MIX THEM UP, SWOP THE TWO RUBBER HOSES FROM THE OLD UNIT TO THE NEW ONE.
14 IF YOU HAV'NT TAKEN PICTURES YOU ARE NOW IN BIG TROUBLE, YOU HAVE TO PUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER.
15 GOLDEN RULE NEVER TAKE A JOB ON IF YOU ARE GOING TO RUSH IT
16 IT TOOK ME SEVEN SOLID HOURS SPREAD OVER TWO DAYS, ONE HAS TO EAT.

Claire vsc code is not vsv be careful. Vsv code comes as p1651 dealer specific. If its vsc just short, connect a thin wire or paper clip between terminals three and five on the obd2 connector. Check the threads there are diagrams showing how to connect them. This usuall
