Goodyear gator serpentine belt compatibility ?
Hi gang
My SC w 28K miles started to have noise come from the SB
I heard a lot of SC owners went to the Goodyear gator belt but when I went on- line , I now see the Goodyear gator belt is no longer compatible with our SC .
Should I just go back to the OEM Toyota belt ?
Tx everyone

This quote was taken from a press release.
"Products previously branded Goodyear Gatorback are now under the brand name Elite following Continental's acquisition of Veyance Technologies"

Hi ioimaster
I just entered the part number you provided and it looks like
It is not compatible to the SC
Maybe I will just stick to the OEM to be safe ?
Tx

GATES K060882 $24.89
CONTINENTAL 4060882 $25.79
Both are great belts but I am partial to Gates, just old school...

I might get one of the belts you recommended . I just heard a lot of good things
About the Goodyear gator belt
Hmmm
The Gate belt is available at my local parts shop . Is the gates belt quiet and durable ?

I find that interesting since that is the one that is currently on my 2006 SC430. I got that number right off the Goodyear site when they still had the gatorback brand. I really don't think it makes much difference what brand you buy. Gates is good also. Belts are belts. By the way. My understanding is the 878 and 882 are the mm length of the belt. So, the 878 is only 4mm shorter than the 882. That is not enough to make any kind of difference. Both would work fine.

I have Gates and so far after 14K miles it still looks new.
The cost for an OEM and a Gates are almost the same. I have heard about the Gatorback.
My Gates replacement SB was paid for by the used car dealer when I bought the car back in 2010. Still OK to date.

I have always liked the quality of gates belts and hoses, they used to be American made but have gone the way of other things...yes they are quiet and durable.

I find this post interesting. First thought for me is all these belts are way better than they were back when I was a kid. Gates, acdelco,Goodyear, it didn't matter every 3 years there about you would have to replace it. The belts these days are way better. Now I see the idler pulley, and tensioner pulleys as the weak link.. Seen way to many have the bearings go bad causing the belt to fail. They lock up, turn with to much force, or lose tension causing the belt to break. If I replace a belt I always replace both pulleys for insurance. I think that is more important than what brand belt. Not that expensive since you only need to every 60, 75,000 miles. For $70 dollars for both pulleys, not worth the worry for me.

Great point Cole! I have never replaced those pulleys with the belt, although I will think about it the next time I replace the drive belt.
The pulleys on the timing belt are a different story, everything in there is replaced because that job is MASSIVE on this car.
Let me point out, when you look at your belt selections on Rockauto, the price selections vary and IMHO, so does the quality, design and materials. You can pay $9 or $25 for a belt.

Not all Idler pulleys are the same. The quality of the bearings used on them will determine how long the life is. NTN, NGK are the leading Japanese OEM suppliers for the Japanese brands. Pretty reliable.
Bearings will fail prematurely if the belt is not adjusted properly, loose or tight. Chances are that the bearing will outlast the life of the car if the belts are adjusted properly.
Growing up (we had a machine shop) Timken was the brand to beat. Timken bearings made in Ohio.

Hence “Auto Tensioners” are deployed whenever feasible nowadays.
