Coleroad, you're making me nervous. I don't want any more problems then what I already have. Should I return the tires & get 245/40/18 instead?

Lots of people have done what you're doing. You will need a wheel alignment for sure though.

Not meaning to make you nervous. Just wanted to let you know how it changes things. Get the alignment so you don't wear them out quickly.

Default Correction!

The tires I ended up ordering were 235-45-18 & not the 245-45-18. Apologize for the confusion.

I compared it at tacomaworld.com & the difference in diameter is 2.4% instead of 3.8% as previously thought of. So, 30 mph will be actually 30.71 mph & 65 mph will be 66.54 mph.

Read somewhere that if the difference is < 3%, there's no need to reprogram the speedometer or other modification. Not sure how much it is true.

Considering the updated size, how bad will be the impact? And is it worth worrying about? The car is already at 193k miles so any negative impact will accelerate the frequency of repairs.

Here's the link: https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc...0r18-235-45r18

I wouldn't much worry about it. Still do get a wheel alignment. Just worried about the toe. I know it's a small change it toe, but small changes can mean extra tire wear.

I've seen cars with Inward/ Outward Toe/Camber modification. And to me, that is the most ugliest sight. And I'm not even talking about tire impact.

I was under the impression that there was enough space between the body & tires & I should be able to fit 45. If that's what I'll have to do then might as well return it.

I wasn't talking about it fitting the wheel well. I'm saying it will change your alignment slightly. You won't visually even see it. If you don't have an alignment done. even the small change the taller tire will make to the wheel alignment can cause extra wear. I'm mainly talking toe. 1/16 can make I difference in tire wear. It will be stock alignment specifications. The taller tire will knock it slightly out of specifications. The alignment is to put it back to factory specifications. Your not looking at some wacky wild cambered setup.

Anyway, ended up returning 235-45-18 & ordered factory default 245-40-18 (Michelin AS3). Will let you know about the ride soon.

Are your old tires run flats? I like my pilot sport as/3's .

@ Coleroad: The rear two were run flat.

After replacement, the ride has become noticeably quieter & with less road feel. Now to think of it, earlier it was more like riding on a wooden wheel with rubber slapped on it (horse carriage). I'm happy. But at times still wonder how the ride would have on say 240-45-17.

A few days after the tire replacement, the TPMS light came on. Initially, it used to work fine for about 0.5-1.0 miles & then the light used to come on. Now, it stays on permanently.

Took the car back to 2 different Costco & they mentioned that their wireless meter cannot read what's wrong (no data received). One guy said I might have to replace all the 4 TPMS sensors & will have to take it back to the Lexus dealer. It's a little hard to believe since they were working fine before replacing the tires. They can't 'all' go bad together?

1.) From what I've found here, the dealer charges at least $160-190 / tire. Can't they just reprogram the existing ones?
2.) Do I have to get it replaced by the dealer or I can get it done by anyone as long as they're compatible with SC430?
3.) Costco does sell TPMS sensors. However, the guy helping me out did not seem very knowledgeable/ confident that they'll work on SC430.

You can take it to the Lexus dealer or
Purchase tech stream and program them yourself
It's very easy and I just posted the info in a thread a couple of weeks ago when I had discount tire replace a TPMS sensor for me. I then sat in the bay and reprogrammed the sensors, it took me about 10 min.

I'm currently running 16" rims. Ride quality is infinitely better than with my 18"" rims and far less worry about potholes. Road surface quality around here is just awful. The 16 " rims look a little funny on a SC430. I may go to 17" rims when winter is over.
