This is the TOOL!
Have to do mine today.
Have to do mine today.
I now have an easy to use VSC OFF light reset tool.
Here is the $2.10 OBDII connector purchased on eBay from a guy in China. It took about two weeks for it to show up.
If you look at the center row you will see the jumper I soldered between the two points toward the bottom of the connector. Those two points are connected to pins 4&14.
The finished product. Very easy to build and use.

My VSC tool appears to be not working. Perhaps I forgot the procedure. How is the procedure? I need to search...

Yes I found the instructions on how to reset the VSC lights. I made a mistake in thinking that all you needed was to plug in the tool....WRONG. Can somebody post the instructions again on this thread? I am looking for it as well.

Here is the full procedure:
1. Turn off ignition.
2. Look for the OBD-II connector under the dash, it has a black plastic cover which can be pulled out.
3. Use the re-set tool, plug it in on the OBDII connector.
4. Turn ON the ignition, do not start.
5. VSC and Check Engine lights turn ON. That's normal.
6. Wait for the VSC light to rapidly flash.
7. Turn OFF ignition.
8. Pull jumper wire out, cover the OBD-II connector.
9. Turn ignition ON, don't start, wait about 15 seconds to make sure everything has initialized.
10. Start car. Test drive.
The pins below are the ones you need to short out.

I am not sure what you mean shorting out do you put the paper clip on both pins 4 and 14 and then solder it in.one part of clip touches pin 4 and then the other end of paper clip you solder to pin 14 is this right, please explain,I can't understand the picture.thanks jimbo

If you want to build a reset tool, refer to post 5.
If you want to use a paper clip you need to insert one end of the paper clip in pin4 and the other end of the paper clip in pin 14.
The picture is a little misleading...read the connector like this,
The bottom row, right to left...pin 1 is on the right and pin 8 is on the left, now do you see pin 4?
The top row, right to left...pin 9 is on the right and pin 16 is on the left.

Yes, almost every time or about 9 out of 10 times the lights will come on. After I disconnect the OBDII connector and turn the key off, then engine on, the lights will be off. Once I begin to move the car, the lights will come back on.
At that point I just short pins 4&14 and the VSC light blinks fast. Key off, disconnect and all is good again.
The long post explains why the lights are triggered on our earlier models.
If you read the manual of your handheld checker, it may be possible to only have the handheld attempt to connect using only the correct mode. I forgot which mode but the next time you connect the handheld screen will tell you.
I believe the CAN mode is the one that triggers the fault.

I am on a 3 month vacation in Florida. In addition I had a trip and fall accident on a brick sidewalk in my home town! Had operations on both knees to repair tendon and ligament damage so I doubt that I can get under the dash to short pins 4 & 14. If I were at home I could get someone to do it for me! Any suggestions on how I night get that done? Do you think that an auto repair place would do it for a small fee?
do you have the ability to make the reset tool?
if so, you can plug it in from the drivers seat. You just reach under the dash with your left hand and connect the plug. Yes, it is that simple.
let me know if you are close.

Its just a single wire with stripped ends long enough to short out two of the pins in the obd connector. Some use a large paper clip they bend .
I have never needed to us one but I think that is how its done

I have a bent paper clip and it has worked for me in the past, until I did my re-set tool.
I will take a picture of it and give you measurements, and hope you can create the paper clip tool.
However it will still require for you to go the bottom and eyeball the pins you want to short, using the clip.
The VSC tool is a plug and play!

I am posting this picture again to clarify where you need to solder.
see the row of holes in the Center...it’s circled in yellow.
i soldered the two holes together, they are connected to pins 4&14.
