Default Tips on doing front brake pads?

Hi All,

I replaced my rear brake pads this weekend with OEM pads and they work great. The hardest parts of the job were:
  • Getting the two big bolts off the get the caliper. I had to use a breaking bar.
  • Compressing the brake piston. I used the wrong tool at first, then bought a 6" C-Clamp that worked great.
  • The retainer pins were also a big pain, but I eventually figured it out.
Do you all have any pointers for doing the front pads? Anything to avoid or pay special attention to? I assume I just remove the caliper, take out the pins, take out the pads, replace and lubrcate the shims, etc.

I'll probably also take off the rotors using the 8mm screw holes to clean..

Anything else to know about or avoid?

Thank you!!

There's one thing I would like to do especially when replacing rotors, is to paint the rotors so that it will not rust out.

In the future rotors will be rust free, might take a few more years but there are coatings that can be used to prevent rust. They do exist on upscale cars but will find their way to high volume cars soon.

...in my opinion, the fronts are easier to do than the rear, so you shouldn't have an issue
