I have a 2002 with 47,000 miles and the timing belt has not been replaced and I am real nervous about it. I order a timing belt kit, including water pump from Sewell Lexus and am having the parts installed very soon.

You are past both the recommended mileage and time to have it replaced!
With our interference engines bad things will happen when it lets go, no matter what the cause.

yes. a few years back. around 80K. Belt, pulley bearings and waterpump looked and felt good, but as Slingshot1 said, don't mess around with a 12 year-old car and an interference engine. The belt may be fine but all you need is the waterpump or an idler pulley to seize up and everything turns in to scrap metal.

Yes @ 101K miles. Belt, pulley and water pump. Everything seemed to be in good nick but, for the $ spent vs. what could happen not doing the maintenance, it's well worth it.

Parts and labor were about $450 each for just under $900. But, then again I'm in Canada where everything is more expensive...

Dealer just quoted me $1300 for timing belt, drive belt, water pump, coolant and thermostat.
This also includes tax and labor.

I was also quoted $900 (on the dollar) for timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, and new gaskets.. $1300 is a huge rip off! Fortunately, I only NEEDED to change the serpentine belt, totaled only $45 at another shop.

I asked for a breakdown on the parts and labor. Parts are just a few bucks more than Sewell. The majority is in the labor; approximately $900.

Bought the OEM parts on-line ($300ish? for belts, pump, idlers, hydraulic tensioner). I did the labor myself so it cost me a weekend in December in an unheated garage.

YES - replaced on my 2002 last year (11 years old) with ~18,000 miles at the time.
The belt was a bit worn, but not too bad. A few of the idlers on the other hand didn't look as good.

I replaced with factory parts from Sewell (timing belt, serpentine belt, water pump, idlers) for right around $950 total (labor was $450 from a trusted local mechanic........~$500 in parts from Sewell).
