Default Calling the sc430 gods: why do I have pinging?

Dear friends,
Occasionally at low rpms I get a slight ping. I read in the user manual that this is normal to occur now and then, as long as it is not all the time.

I changed my spark plugs fearing an improper gap a few weeks ago. Now I'm confident the gap is correct and that is not the cause of the pinging. I always use premium gas too.

I believe the ping has something to do with the excessive fuel injector cleaner I have used. I'm embarrassed to say I really over did it. I used lucas, seafoam, bg44k, all at once. Maybe the overdose caused build up?

If you could help me and share your expertise I would appreciate it. I am not getting any codes, and my performance is very good..,

Thanks in advance for your help. -Lex

pinging is caused by a timing problem, to advanced or engine running to lean,

Thanks - is there anything I can do or it just time to take her in? And the user manual said this was normal to occur occasionally?

its not good to have a pinging problem. pinging can slowly put holes in your pistons. this is caused by a lean mixture. the color of your plugs should be a light brown.

This could be caused a multitude of things, you'll just have to start eliminating them one by one. I don't think this would be a timing issue, unless this began a long time ago. But since you ran all the additives through your system, have you done the oil change yet? Also, it's advisable to replace all the plugs after the additives have gone through the system and not before.

I would start with the simple items' clean the maf, check the vacuum lines for cracks/loose connections, check your PCV valve. Also, I think I read in one of the previous threads that you just installed the SRT intake. Did the ping occur before that? If not, check the solder connectionsfor the piggyback ecu in the engine ECU box. Sometimes the solder pts break loose. Hope that helps...

Use a different gas station and make *sure* you're getting premium.

First place to start since it is the easiest. Poor quality gas (and/or low octane) can detonate under pressure prior to spark ignition = ping.

I fear you have damaged or contaminated either the MAF or one or both Oxygen sensors with excessive use of these cleaners. See what voltages the Oxygen sensors are sending the ECU.

Either or both of these being contaminated or damaged would cause the ECU to handle the engines fuelling and timing in way that could easily cause this pinging, which is called detonation by the way, and has destroyed many's the engine, by melting valves and cracking or burning pistons to a crisp in a matter minutes in lesser engines.

Hopefully some driving will correct these issues, but if not then you'll need professional diagnostics to assess all the sensors in the flowpath through the engine both intake and exhaust system, to assess the sensors for damage in flowpath of the cleaning fluids you used.

Wink O2 sensors

I had the MAF cleaned when I had my intaka installed (I think, but I can check). Also, wouldnt I be getting codes if my O2 sensors where bad?? Would you suggest I just replace them all? I think there are 4 O2 sensors? Is it pretty easy?

Replacing all 02 sensors gets expensive and some are very difficult to reach. Have you asked the installer to look at your car
