Right, steel frame and wood around it. I must say once you are used to gripping on clear gloss wood, no turning back to normal leather steering wheel. Do not get me wrong there are exotic steering wheels on high end cars which are better.

The steering wheel on the SC430 is fantastic. As an acoustic guitar player, I love fine wood and craftsmanship, and those steering wheels are simply sensuous. Just one more reason I love slipping behind the wheel of the 430.

Steering Wheel

Whenever I visit the service department of Lexus Of Clearwater, I often see the cross section of a wood grain steering wheel from a LS. Its amazing the quality of detail that Lexus puts in their steering wheels. However some of the steering wheels, particularly the cherry "wood" on the 07 and newer vehicles, look more like plastic than wood.
