Go get it, assuming you have done due diligence in checking the VIN versus the Lexus database.

Keep in mind even if it has been meticulously maintained it will be due for a timing belt again soon.

I also went from a 98 GS400 to my 02 SC. I would do it if I were you. I'm much happier with my SC. There are a lot of people who think the GS is a little quicker but it's only by milliseconds if at all. If you are truly worried about power, people and I have been able to beat 350z's, G35's, Mustang GT's among others. With this car, it isn't all about the power. It has a little more torque but also weighs more than the GS. Again, I would do it if I were you because I had the exact situation and I've never looked back.

Buy it, you won't regret it. And the top of the gs won't go down no matter how hard you try!

Also keep in mind that the SC has a ECU that "learns" how you drive and adjusts its performance appropriately, at least according to its programming. Reseting the ECU will improve performance usually.

Just an fyi... I gave up my red 5.0 stang converable for the kid when she was young for the chevy suburban (wife complained about kid riding with top down in car seat with sun glasses getting all the attendtion from the female riders in other cars asking me if I wanted a babysitter...) Anyway, I always looked back. Now we have an SC and we are keeping it to hand off if kid ever gets out of college... Congrats on the kid and decision and good luck!!!
