Default Question......

Over the past year I have been hearing a noise coming from the rear of the car. It seems to happen when the car is running and almost sounds like the fuel pump priming itself, but it happens when the car is running. So I don't think it would be that.

It doesn't happen all the time, it might but I miss it due to the loud levels I tend to listen to the stereo at.

My other thought is that it might be from the one of the top motors to raise adn lower the roof...I just thought I would post to see if anyone could tell me what it is.. I'm not at all concerned that it might be a problem just like to know what it might be....Thanks All....

You're close -- it has something to do with the loud stereo levels.
It's the fan for the rear amplifier.

After a stereo workout, shut the car off, and you should hear it.
I think it's in the back right section.

hmmmmm. I never even thought about it but now that I do I remember another amp in one of my cars doing that..

Thanks for letting me in on that...I am sure that is what it is. I just went into the garage and blasted some dire straights and the fan "whirred" on cue as soon as I turned it off....

Default Impressed with the knowledge!!!

I'm sorry, but I just have to comment on the power of this forum. A fan on an amplifier!!! All the info on this site is great for those of us who are hyper-sensitive on the quirks of our cars or who just want to have a good understanding of what is happening under the hood, or in this case the trunk!

With all the info I am collecting on the SC430 from this forum, I think any dealership will be afraid of me when I go to buy this fall!

Thanks for all the info, and keep it coming!

Ironically, exactly 10 years after the previous post I have noticed the same issue on my 2002 SC430 (in warm weather). I hope this is 'normal' behaviour.

Same here. Whirring by the DVD drive. 2002 sc430. How much to fix this? Or do you need to even?

Sorry to hear your having the problem. I had the same problem last year, we have a 2002. Sounded like a fuel pump running during and after car shut off, not normal, fan bearing in amplifier worn and making noise. Amp replacement..... saving grace is we had a warranty, and sorry to to say it is expensive ......... $900.00 ish. Diag and replacement done at dealership.

No component repair, all or nothing. If fan fails, amp will overheat and shut down or fail.
This is what I was told and backed up by some research.

Hope this helps even though negative news.

There are places (auction houses) that can source an amp for us. Much like what a few people did on upgrading their NAV's. Straight swap out, but requires complete tear down of the trunk.
