250K Mile SC430 Gives Me Confidence
I occasionally go through SC430 postings on cars.com for 'entertainment'. Today I stumbled across a SC430 with over 250K miles... this certainly gives me confidence that my SC430 could make it this high up in mileage. The dealer probably brought this car in as a trade at 4K lol

250K sc430
Hey Jason, I bought my 2002 SC430 in 2005. It was spotless and had 22,700 miles on it. I found out the dealer had just got the car back from a 3 year lease. Yesterday we turned 249,000 miles. Great Car.

pleiter, that is incredible. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of stuff has broken or gone wrong wih the SC430 in the last 225,000 miles?
I also have a high mileage SC430 so this information would be quite valuable. Thank you.

as long as you follow maintenance with any car they'll see high miles.
Willing to bet that 250k car saw the Lexus dealership religiously for recommended services.
You can find a 50k car that would run ****tier than the 250k car, if it wasn't maintained or beat on continuously.

I have yet to see a Lexus with more than 170000 miles on it. Since I work in a Toyota dealer, I did have a customer traded a 98 Camry LE with 390000 miles on it and the only thing that didn't work was the passenger side front power window. He just did all the required maintenance work with timing belt change (3 times, each at 100k miles mark). He services the car with us and has full record with him and was in our system as well. We gave him $500 as trade, he was pissed off and wanted $2,000 for it..... He kept the car.....

Quite frankly, I fully expect to get that kind of mileage. I put 250K mile on an '87 Audi CS5000 Turbo Quattro - which wasn't known as the most reliable brand! Put 225K miles on a 1999 Ford Windstar, have nearly 180K miles on a 2000 Ford Taurus. No 'major' engine/tranny work on any of them (except the Audi - rear differential) outside of the usual struts, waterpumps, powersteering.
So, if Fords and Audi's can do that kind of time/distance, surely a car from one of the most reliable brands in history can do it!

1992 SC400 378,000 and going strong
My 1992 sc400 is still going strong no engine or trans problems at all. I did have to change the power steering rack and hoses a few months back ($600). The seats do need to be refurbished but the car feels and looks good when it is all clean. My 2002 Sc430 just turned 100,000 and so far have not invested any money on breakdown repairs just a few mods. I will keep both of the cars until lexus comes out with a similar sports car and then I will just add it to my collection.

I can't say I've been overly meticulous, but I do take care of my car. I drive betweeen 30 and 35k miles/year and usually change oil 3 or 4 times. Recently installed my second timing belt. Obvious batteries, brakes and tires. Other than CDs getting stuck occasionally , the only other problems I have are up-down on my side mirrors. Had both replaced (Lexus extended warranty for certified cars) but problems returned. I think the problems are not in the mirrors but in the control interface with the transmission reverse. Also had to change oil pan because the drain plug would not thread tightly and a new upper control arm.
I smashed the front end a few years ago and insurance replaced AC components, alternator, radiator, etc so that eliminated some common replacement candidates.
I believe a good car will go forever with the proper care and preventive maintenace and these are certainly good cars. I sold my previous LS400 at 178k only because of the catalyctic converters. But I marvel that everything still works on my SC, the locks, the windows, the top, every accessory, every button. Simply superb.
