Default Just Bought My sc430 This Month

I just bought a 2005 sc430 Pebble Beach edition w/ 58k miles. I paid $20,200. Open receiving the car, I took it to Lexus for the 60k service. I did have to replace the water pump and one rear axle. The sellers, who are an outstanding couple up North, pitched in on repairs. I am very pleased with the car and the deal.

Just bought a 2006 with 18K 1-owner miles. Chardonnay Pearl over Ecru, and pristine condition. Paid $25,500, which is pretty steep for a 2006 model, but this one is about as nice as they come and I really wanted a super-low-mileage car. Happy with the purchase so far! This is my 4th SC430 -- I'm hooked for life, I think!

riknchar,

How would you compare the SC430 to the LS?

Do you feel they resemble each other, in any way at all?

Yes, there is some "family resemblance" between the two, but the cars have very different "personalities" and missions. My LS600hL is the ultimate in swaddled comfort, refinement, understated elegance, and sheer power, while the SC is swoopy, somewhat quirky, and not nearly as quiet. Both (to me) look like moving art objects, with the fluid design, classic lines, and amazingly deep paint.

To me, the 2008 LS600hL and the 2006 SC430 represent the absolute best of the "old Lexus" cars (pre-spindle grill), and I honestly can't think of another car I'd rather have than one of these. I intend to be driving an LS600 and an SC430 for the foreseeable future.

Ok deal, from a former owner, the 3rd. He had it for 3 years, put on 3,000 miles. Had all work done at dealership, full inspection, fixed all known problems in 2014. In 2015 he had the timing belt and water pump replaced. No problems on most recent dealership inspection in Jan 2016. For me it is fun project, keeping it looking good and taking it out on nice days. Having fun with it now. Only negative is that I'm accustomed to Prius gas-mileage; clearly over twice what the SC gets. I may put 2k miles on it in a year. Since purchase it has gained 357 miles. So, gas-mileage isn't really a issue at all.

Agreed, gas Mileage should never be an issue if you are going to purchase a V8...plus it takes premium, anything less may damage the engine!

When you purchase a V8...it's all about Smiles Per Gallon

2004 model. I paid $12k for mine. After repainting the car, putting a body kit, big brake kit, air suspension with management, wheels and tires, and updating the look from a 02-05 to 06-10 head lights and tail lights i'm about $30k in. Still need to install the sound system. all in all not bad i feel.

2003 Silver on Ecru
Had 98,8XX miles when delivered (Florida car transplanted to Iowa)
Actually purchased on E-bay had it delivered
Was in an accident which I have no information on other than AutoCheck "ok'ed" it and previous owner had it for 3 years after accident
Paid $8700 plus 1100 to have it delivered
It stranded me already with a bad alternator, through the help of CL, I replaced it myself - though it did cost about $450 between new battery, new alternator, and tow
I've had to repair the speakers already - again thanks CL for the great information threads
Had to put a new gas cap to clear the CEL and VSC lights
Tire sensors going/are bad - looking at possibly replacing with external wireless (gonna post on another thread) and disabling factory TPMS
CD changer has errors - thinking of replacing with an '05-09 ML head unit so I can possibly add AUX and Bluetooth - hopefully?
I think I need to replace front shocks/struts (shutters at highway speed when I hit a bump - steering and other suspension seem ok) and replace tires
Other basic service work (Oil, Trans fluid, etc.)
But after all that I really do love to drive the car. We've had beautiful weather this fall and it has been an absolute pleasure to drive.
I plan on doing what it takes to get it as good as I can as I plan on keeping this for as long as possible.
Did I get a good deal? Probably not, but I wanted the Silver/Ecru combo and others I was finding (no accidents and much lower miles) were advertised just shy of $20,000
So ..... I guess I'm happy with the deal - first time Lexus owner, I have several Toyotas and have been very happy with their reliability.
Sorry for the rambling, just trying to contribute to the thread
