Power Antenna to Fixed Stubby Conversion
3 Attachment(s)
Let's see if we can come up with an option to convert out telescoping antenna to a fixed style stubby antenna and not lose good reception.
I once installed an S2K Honda antenna to an old Camry and it worked. Had to change to a Celica mount. See results in a separate thread. Here are the pics of the Celica mount and the stubby antenna. There might be some possibilities here. Chime in. I am sure people have torn their antenna apart maybe we can get some ideas going. We can always try. |

Here's how it looked like on the Camry.

Power Antenna to Fixed Stubby Conversion
Hi Mandy,
I do strongly believe that each of us can do what they want with their car; or any other property that they own. So, why do you want to change the antenna? Jerry Baumchen |

the stock antenna looks like its from 1994, im all for a mod however I have yet to replace one on a car so my knowledge is limited. I want to learn though, hopefully mandyfig can get something togehter over the long weekend!
I wish a bunch of us lived closer it would make mods so much easier to work on in groups! |

I was considering adding a switch to raise and lower the antenna at will.
What do you think about one of these universal stubby antenna kits: It lists the sc430 as compatible. I would get one in all black for mine. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-JDM...item588d764797 |
Here is the full write up on the camry to S2000 antenna conversion:
http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t65507.html Another option is to go uplug the motorized antenna and plug the antenna wire into a tuned hidden antenna like this one: http://www.ecshylites.com/page/page/761353.htm |
I've tried a few hidden antennas and none of them work as advertised. Screw-in stubbys wont work unless you get a new antenna housing like Mandyfig listed. You won't be able to screw it into anything. Going from an expandable antenna to a screw-in takes more effort.
Mandyfig said that the install will take place this weekend so hopefully it has good results. I'd test it out for myself but the housing and antenna will be around $75, a little more than I want to pay since Mandyfig already has the parts to test with |

Is this angled metal piece removeable? Looks like its being held on by tape...?

Has anybody seen a torn down trunk that shows the antenna? I have seent it before.
I do not want to tear the trunk down if this option is not feasible. If we just a picture of the antenna, we can figure it out. SEARCH...I will try. |
True enough a bunch of people have discussed this same mod, ever since 2005. But in the 7 threads that I read...nobody has debugged it.
Except 1 who has done a change but it involved body work. Ended up using a MB stubby antenna. Not quite what some of us want They have talked about S2K antennas, too. Unless I see a picture of the antenna I would not rather tear the trunk apart. In the meantime, I will have to de-activate the auto-adjust feature of the antenna (FM and DISC button push) to start. My 2nd option is to disconnect power to the antenna and install an hidden antenna (which we all know is not as good as an external one. 1 thing I will do this weekend is to try to simulate mounting the S2K antenna to my SC with some tape or something. |
And BTW our antenna (all auto antenna's) has a drain for water coming into the antenna.
|
I've taken my trunk lining off several times. There's a couple pics in the earlier thread if that helps (page 2 and 3): https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...antenna-2.html.
The only thing I'm worried about is that angled metal piece. The angle may be different from the angle of our car, so it may not be a tight fit and the antenna may not stick straight up. |
