Yep. OUTRAGEOUS. Go to eBay and find the correct key for your car by FCC ID. Most locksmiths will cut the steel for $35. Finding the transmitter guts to the key may be more difficult. However there are some sites on eBay that will do both for a reasonable fee if you provide the VIN. But again if you lose the one key you have you’ll be spending 4x what the dealer wants now. I’d also go back to where you bought the car and see if they forgot to give you other keys.
in the diagram you can see the various keys:

As I mentioned before programming is a DIY process IF you are patient. That alone saves you $125 from the dealer quote. Here’s the link: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...ogramming.html

Thanks everyone for the heads up on getting additional keys. Luckily my repair shop manager gave me the name of a locksmith that apparently does keys at a fraction the cost so that will be my first call. I don't mind paying a fair price and I wonder what a dealer is thinking when they give such an OUTRAGEOUS price to a potential first time customer. I mean if that's any indication of your customer service why would I ever go there for ANYTHING? Penny wise and pound foolish!

If you really want the two piece “wallet key” sometimes referred to as a card key, you’re probably stuck with ordering one from a dealer or an online Lexus parts supplier. They are unique in that the metal shaft portion separates from the card holder and is used in the mechanical locks. The second part, the card, contains electronics and is used to deactivate the car’s ignition immobilizer.

Duplicated master key is cheaper than you think. About 45 bucks for 2 blank keys, 20 bucks for cut, and free programming if you have Techstream. There is a vendor will produce your duplicate key with you key photo for less than 100 bucks. Do the search on this topic. Don't loose your only Master key, it will cost you big bucks.
Blank keys on Amazon:

Thanks for your response.
My key OEM part number is different from the Amazon link. Amazon link = HYQ12BBT. My key = HYQ12BBK.
What does that mean? Will these still work?
Thanks!

Read this: https://fccid.io/HYQ12BBK. Search eBay for your FCC ID. The BBT version may work but I’d want the identical one. They are there.

I have found the “car of my dreams”!!! I’m making a quick flight to Denver this Thursday to meet “her”, then having her transported to me next week. She’s in great condition, but I’m not comfortable driving through Wyoming in an unfamiliar car.

First on the agenda will probably be some new wheels - I want to bling her up a bit. Any suggestions?

Pictures and more info to follow.

Congrats! Just drive it, Joyce! I bought mine sight-unseen in Naples, FL and drove it home to Ontario. Best bonding experience ever.

There are also some time constraints. I’m flying in and out on one day. If I had the time, I’d drive a more circuitous route.

Too bad. I’ve owned the SC for almost 4 years and have not have a chance to take her for the long trips. I always want to drive the SC top down along the California coast, from LA to San Francisco.
I definitely do this in the near future. I will be fun.

Good luck with the purchase. Be sure to have it checked out independently.

i did SF to long beach last year, but i took highway 5. car cruised at 80+ on the long sections just eating the miles up. and then on the grapevine it had zero issues, just passing everyone struggling to get up the hill haha

Thats 18000 miles for you not in Canada.

Car is stock so far, still a work in progress, { new antenna, new timing belt, need to repair right headlight washer} still has run flats.
