There is almost certainly a disk included but it likely will be out of date. There are relatively inexpensive latest version (2015 is last year) GEN 4 disks for sale on ebay.

I did the Gen 4 upgrade and it is fairly easy mode that is plug and play. Majority of the work is pulling all the trunk trim in and out and also be very careful pulling the connectors out of the NAV unit. Take your time and don;t force anything.

Did not look at making BT capability work.

Has anyone by any chance saved or access to the pictures from the first post?
I'd like to know how I have to dismantle the trunk to get access to the bolts on the right side of the navigation unit.

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,
Johan

Go to this thread: Post # 2 in the thread. Then PDF file marked lighting components. The PDF shows all the trunk garnish components you have to take apart to get to the NAV player and ML Amp.

Default Dusting off the cobwebs on SC430 2nd Gen Nav update.

Hi there first time poster. Recently purchased a 2003 SC430 and ran across this post "DIY Gen4 Navigation Upgrade *PICS INSIDE". I know it's been a while but wondering if you can answer a couple of questions. The Gen4 NAV you installed was from an 2006 or newer vehicle? If so, was it just plug and play? Reason I'm asking is because the lexus dealership/parts website does not show compatibility for 2002/2003. Any idea if newer Gen would also work on the 2003?

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Can't answer your question for sure, but I believe the 2002-2005 models were all the same, and then the 2006 - 2010 models were pretty much all the same. I made the Gen 4 swap on my 2004 a couple of years ago. Don't remember where it came from (bought it on Ebay) but I think if is a Gen 4, the Gen 4's would all be the same. All that being said, if the Gen 4 works in your 2003, then it is just plug and play...take the old one out and put the new one in. Good luck.

You can usually obtain a GEN4 NAV on ebay - The Gen 4 Nav units were factory OEM NAV on a wide variety of Toyota and Lexus models and years. For GEN 4 make sure you get a NAV with part number (86841-50090).

Just did the gen4 upgrade. It was easy using the pictures above. I searched eBay with that model number above. Searched for lowest price with that number. $82.50 shipped. Was from a 2006 Toyota Landcruiser

Ordered newest nav update disc for gen4 version 15 for $12.

So how do you like the upgrade or was your NAV dead before?

System was not dead. I just noticed it was an easy upgrade and not much cost so I did it.

I do like it. Better graphics and better way they do directions it seems so far, more likely to recalculate route and go with changes than to try to steer back to original route which is nice.
