Default '05 and '06 Instrustment Cluster

Is there a difference between the two? The Lexus dealer told me that '06 models cannot replace their instrument like the previous years. So if you damage you're SOL. My friend popped a champagne bottle in his sc (yeah he's an idiot and it cracked the speedo cover (Plus did a number on the few other things).

lol what did he do with the rest of the bottle?

The clusters were upgraded and they completely redesigned them. just go to a junk yard and find a older unit

you can order just the "Combination Meter Glass" for the speedometer if you want new. But you should use the VIN number because there was a change in Aug 2005. But with that said, you won't believe how much work its going to be to get to it.
  1. Remove the steering wheel. - be careful - special alignment necessary use match marks - explosive air bag - disconnect the battery for at least one minute.
  2. Remove the Instrument cluster finish panel - multiple clips careful not to damage the finish.
  3. Remove the steering column cover
  4. Remove the Turn signal assembly - might be able to skip this...

gotta love the Japanese people...how some pronounce "glass" and spell it in the last graphic below.

Thanks...

I just talked with him.

Believe it or not, he's a surgeon who looks and acts like Johhny Knoxville (JackAss Movies). He's also very cheap and thinks he can fix anything.

I guess the bottle spilled all over his car and date. Rumor has it that the cork bounced back and hit her in... the air bags. No one will confirm

LOL great story. But the question is.... Did he check for bruised, errr aaaa air bags? I mean being a surgeon and all that, it would have been clinical....right?

Here's a 2006 one but I think they have a 2002 one also. You should email them and see if they have one in your year.

I changed the glass (plastic) covering my cluster assembly. It is very easy and you do not have to pull the steering wheel. Mine is an 06. If I remember right, you just grab the plastic housing (3 arches) and pull. You can then see what to do. You do not need a book. You can do a search on this site if needed.

Thanks.

Are you saying that pull the finish panel off and that would reveal the cluster? No steering wheel pull? Correct?

If so, wow!

Correct. I think I left the key on and the steering wheel extended all the way

I did take my speedometer out as well.

The black plastic housing just pops out with a little force. You need to pull it out towards you. There will be a wire connected for your button on the left side, just disconnect that. once thats out then you will see the 4 screws holding your speedometer in. just unscrew that and the odometer will slide out. turn it slightly so the back is revealed and unplug the harness.

I just stuck my key and put it in the "ON" position and extended my steering wheel all the way down. No need to remove steering wheel.
