Check Engine Light Gas cap, state inspection
I just did my state (Texas) emission inspection and passed. The next morning the check engine light came on. I checked the gas cap and its tight. I feel pretty confident the light came on because of the emission inspection and tests. Question is, will the light go out by itself on a 2002 SC430? The station offered to reset the light for me tomorrow, requiring me to drive over during lunch or something. I searched the forum and didnt see any specific comments about this. I figure this is common and should be shared with all. Thanks
I have no secondary indications of a problem. The light came on about 1 hour driving time after the inspection.

Couple of different ways. You can remove the EFI fuse with the ignition switched to off. Or you can remove the negative cable from the battery, although that will also clear other memory systems (clock, etc.).

Jeff-I've never had this happen with my two SC's in Texas on inspections-very strange. They don't mess with the gas cap at all. Maybe try removing the negative cable from teh battery for 30 minutes, open and re-close the gas cap and then see if that does it.
Keep us posted. PS-where did you get the inspection at? How many times are you clicking the gas cap? Are you running premium? Did you happen to get a full tank of gas right at the same time?

Took it back today. He read the code with an OBD II device under the steering wheel. I had 3 codes I wish I had written down. He said it could be a vacuum hose. Sure enough, two pencil size hoses were loose directly in front of the steering fluid reservoir. I cant imagine how those hoses could come loose. Good learning point is that some places like Oreillys Autoparts will let you use their OBD for free. The codes are also industry standard, and not all unique to Lexus. So it appears that any OBD-2 can read the SC430 codes and tell you the basic code error.
Here is a good link for OBD codes. I havent confirmed them yet. At the bottom is generic codes, then a link to a few Lexus specific codes. If you know of any codes, and exactly what the corrective action is, this would be a good place to share them. I couldnt find them anywhere else on here.
