Hopefully the top threw a code as mentioned above, the few times it has failed. Working with these aftermarket extended warranty companies is a royal pain in the a$$.

I just had my both of front hub bearings done on my '04 LS430... They only covered 60.00 of labor, sent out their own parts, and wouldn't cover the alignment! Granted I only got a 295.00 90 day warranty, but no one anywhere charges 60.00 an hour of labor anymore. Still came out of pocket 229.00 when all was said and done.

Since your car is still working it will be difficult to pinpoint with precision what the problem is. In my situation , it happened once, I turned off the engine and than it worked properly. After a couple of months it happened again and 4th or 5th time it stopped working, even if I disconnected the battery. At that point I had to close the roof manually(a pretty difficult process / you need a helper).Originally I thought it was a top mechanism cable, but later on the problem came back and I had to take it to the dealership.
Unfortunately I don't have the photo of the part saved on my computer anymore, but if you look at my other posts you will find it (on page 3 / Top Mechanism is open and will not close??)
Good luck and let us know...
I plan to take the car to lexus this wekend. I was told that they will need 4 hrs of work time. However, they will not work on the car until monday.I hope it is just a loose wire.

I think the problem has worsen. I could not get the top to work at all. I finally got it to close on the following day. I will not touch it at this point . I have an appointment at the dealer on this weekend.

Hey all!
I just wanted to give you an update. Lexus called me on today and informed me that it was the motor for the package tray. My warranty will cover the fix but I do not know all the details yet. I will keep you all posted.

Thanks for all the info! I received my car on today and all is well. It was the package tray motor. I paid $100.00 and the warranty paid $783.71. The part was 327.08 and labor was 391.92. All and all, today was a good day.

It would be more helpful if you can post the part number.

Im not sure about that but my guess is they check everything when you start having problems.

well after months of winter and deciding what to do i went ahead and changed the package tray motor since i had the same symptoms etc as described here. It took me about an hour total, most of the steps are not needed that are in the repair guide since the package tray motor is up top under a trim peice and once that is out, it is easy to remove. cost me $250 and dealer wanted $2800 to change out a diff part that would not have even fixed the problem!

thanks a bunch

Wow!!! DIY for $250 and dealer wanted $2800 that wouldn't have even fixed it??? This has got to be one of the best "feel good" stories about DIY'ers I've ever heard!

Outstanding news!! Congrats

Any chance that you took pics or maybe give us a DIY? For future use of the members? What part number was replaced?
