Default Help! Problems with the trunk.

I searched the forum and came up empty handed. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated.

Since I purchased my sc in February, I have had troubles with my trunk staying "up." By this I mean that if I do not physically hold the trunk up with my hand, it will slam right back down and latch, which has become an inconvenience.

I took the car into Lexus this morning to get it serviced and had them check out my problem. They said to fix the problem that they wanted $500. I'm not a cheap guy, but $500 seems a little outrageous to fix such a problem.

I am wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem and would know if $500 is a fair price for such a repair or is it even something that would be a relatively easy DIY. From what I understand, it seems that I need to replace the Trunk Lip Support Struts. Possibly a part similar to this:

Any input is appreciated!

You're on the right track, just buy those trunk lift supports and install them yourself. It's really easy and will take 15min tops. They should come with install instructions too.

Do not pay $500 lol, I think I did mine for $60 after shipping etc.

Thank you for the help...I will order them tonight. It is ridiculous the amount of money that a dealership will try to gouge you for.

I had the same problem when I bought my Sc 2 years ago. I bought from the struts on ebay-they were on the car 2 days later. Installation was 10 minutes long-very simple. Price tag was less than $60. Dealer also told me $400+ to replace. This is probably the easiest fix for our sc's.

Nothing to it really.... just make sure the lid is supported properly when you change them out. Usually called the lift support cylinder. They cost about $112 each if you get OEM parts. I cannot comment on the quality of the ones on ebay but they offer a warranty.

Thanks for posting the diagram. Hopefully I'll be able to have this project done sometime this month!

Try: www.napa.com

They carry them for most cars.

Try this site instead--Auto parts! I personally never used them. I bought my struts off ebay.
