I installed a Pioneer AVH-X5700bhs unit in my 03 SC430 with Beat-Sonic MVA-12L.I did the work myself and not that hard to do. I still use my ML amp and speakers but now have all the features of Bluetooth, hands free speaker, HD radio, and a 12 band eq which really helped.
You lose some of the steering wheel radio controls but very minimal.
Like you found, installers just say no way but that's totally wrong. My radio door still works and my nav still works just like it use to.

I will post s picture when I get back in town. Pioneer unit sounds great but the drawback to all touch screens is when the top is down it totally wages out the screen and you can't see anything on the screen.
