Wonder why it's at such a small dealer? That's a concern and a red flag, IMO.

Looks like it had some body work on the left rear quarter about 4 years ago.

Great find !! Often wondered why any car business would use a moniker like "paydayautosales", it makes me suspicious !

I think the asking price is a couple of thousand too high, depending on what kind of shape it's in. If it's in great shape, maybe it's worth the $25k they are asking. But I'd rather get it for $23k or lower. It also says "make a cash offer," in the ad, so I'd make a lower offer and see what they say. Them saying that makes me suspicious that THEY don't think it's worth $25k either.

Before buying from a place like this, I'd HAVE to see the car and get it checked out. This isn't one I'd buy in good faith over the internet. But that's just me. I don't trust ANY small time car dealer.

Thanks for the great analysis, I'm with you on a small dealer selling highline cars. Wish it was offered out of Palmbeach or Naples FL. Obviously it was purchased from an auction, thinking 18k wholesale

ahhh, yeah but 100 cars made, this car is SUPER rare and the ultimate SC to get. It appears to be in tiptop shape, decent miles, etc. I sold my 2002 with 29k red/ecru with lots of upgrades for $24k. I don't see why this car couldn't fetch close to that. They might have bought for 18k at an auction, or maybe a trade at their local lexus dealer and they bought from them. As we have discussed, a lot of lexus dealers are not even messing with cars they cannot CPO and don't offer competitive financing through LFS.

Basically now they will have to only buy 2004+ with under 60k miles and keep to CPO them and offer financing through LFS, otherwise no matter how rare/pristine, they will have to sell at auction or sell to wholesalers.

A guy locally that owns broadway motors in Farmers Branch, Tx (Dallas) has a 19 year relationship with Sewell Lexus. They call him to "scoop up" their wholesale ugly cars with high miles, and he cleans them up and sells them. He sold 54 cars last month in a recession at his "little" wholesale shop. He has everything from 5 series to Range Rovers to Cadillacs to older Lexus with high miles. His shop is where you find that $9,000 2001 ES300 with 80k miles or like me, I found a 2002 SC430 red/ecru with 72k miles for $19k. He said that he goes to Sewell once a week and looks at their cars they take on trade they they don't want to sell and buys up to ten cars sometimes and writes a check out for $500-$700k for them!!! Then, he turns around and cleans them up and sells them for up to $1M+ in sales. Example: He bought the 2002 SC for $14k from lexus of shrevport, la and sold it for $18k. He also said (and I experienced this too) that it's getting harder and harder for premium dealers to offer cut-rate financing terms on their non-branded cars that are older than five years old because their franchise is requiring them to have X amount of CPO cars--hence the reason why a premium lexus dealer may pass on a 2003 SC430 or 2002 NM with higher mileage-no finance! Only so many "cash" cars can sit on your premium used car lot till you start looking like Sanford and Son!

Holy Moly, you'd have the best SC430 garage in CL !! What did your wife say ?? This is an unbelievable turn of events, Ebony might get jealous !! My friend, you might have hit the jackpot, better than winning the lottery !! That service history is outstanding. If you get it , I bet the first thing is the pie plates are gone in a nano second !!

I would agree completely with this ordinarily, but I might be tempted to second guess myself on these pie plates.....since they are chrome and look so much better than the usual pie plates. Plus, with this particular car, I'm not sure that it might be a smart thing to keep it completely stock. I don't know...I'd have to think about it.

By the way, this car was reportedly owned by the owner's brother and was always garage kept. They say no body work, but the service record clearly shows something being done 4 years ago on the left side. Was that a "ding" repair or a dent repair (meaning body work)? Who knows....

Here's the email I got on the car when I asked about it.....

"we aquired this lexus from the owners brother. he bought it brand new and it has been garage kept its entire life. to the best of my knowledge there has been no problems with the lexus. no accidents, body work, major mechanical issues etc...the interior and exterior are in excellent shape! there is one small surface scratch on the drivers side rear bumper that we should be able to have buffed out. yes the vehicle will come with the original floor mats and owners manuals. i do not have any extra keys here, however, we are 99% sure that we can get an extra set from the original owner. if you have any further questions or concerns feel free to e-mail or call me back @ (803) 934-0434.
thank you
jason"

+1 on keeping it stock, I'd get the Tourmalines with new tires and store the pie plates. That was a good email response to your inquiry. Let's see if they accept SCDROPTOP's offer, 20k would be a STEAL !!

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when he tells his wife about it. Now I'm wondering how big his garage is. Maybe he's going to have to build on, and then he'll have to tell his wife about THAT, too!

True or False: One can NEVER have too many vehicles with red leather interior!

I've got a 3-car garage....my story is that we are entering into the wholesale car business. She is out of town...hopefully I can seal the deal before she comes home!!

Probably won't tell her until it arrives--might be better that way! We have 3 cars...looks like the company car sits outside now in the driveway.

In reality, they probably won't take what I'm willing to spend. We'll see. I would definitely do the spyders or tourmalines. I personally like the "mesh" wheel a little better but you all are making me like the tourmalines with all the hype about them.

I would probably do the rear tails and wheels that's it. Just dreaming...I doubt it will come true.

scdroptop, what is also interesting about the ad for that car is that it mentions that it qualifies for a "4 year, unlimited mileage warranty"! I didn't even realize that there was such a beast, especially for a 2002. Do you know anything about that?

It's probably a third party. I'm not too interested in those. I would only get one that I would know for sure would work at MY dealer. A lot of times they give you lip service, "yes, our warranty is good at all dealers", but you end up having to fight and claw with the dealer and/or third party company to get stuff covered. I'd love to get our Platinum Warranty on that, but I seriously doubt I could.
